http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/galleries/3070129/npd.htmlReasonable upgrade to the Korg G1b Air. Tried all the Privia's, the Korg Lp380, C1, Roland 5xx 6xx Kawai Es Fantastic keybed, 80W speakers, 3 great sampled Piano's, half pedalling, enough resonance but not too annoying and loooong sustain if you need it. I'm very happy to put my VST's and monitors away and just enjoy a Piano for a while.

Let's hope there won't be a new and much improved Korg G2 in a few weeks or months. ๐

Ooooo, New Piano Day! And it's a G1 Air, too! Wishing you many, many hours of piano playing happiness.
I really like the tactile feel of the RH3 action & the satiny keys. Don't know if it's considered to be top notch or not, but it sure feels silky smooth to play. It's addicting, I swear! โบ๏ธ
These Korgs aren't advertised as having escapement, but my C1 Air definitely has a bit of space below the point where the note sounds. Subtle, but it's there.

He has not confirmed NPD stands for โnew piano dayโ, so Iโm going with Macโs definition (it simply makes more sense).

Let's hope there won't be a new and much improved Korg G2 in a few weeks or months. ๐ I considered this, but the chances of any new release Piano's reaching these shores in the next 6 months is quite low. I'm not a patient man.

And of course NPD=New Piano Day! One seller's web site states the "B" it is an improved version of G1. It is not listed on Korg's page on the product so I suppose is a more recent release with improvements but Korg did not bother renaming it like Kawai and Roland did with their "new" products.

Oh, I didn't even notice the "B" though it was already in the initial post.
One of my local music stores also has a "Korg one GigaByte" model listed. ๐
("Korg G1B Air" that is...1199โฌ and "in stock" for the white one and "out of stock" for the black one.)
I wonder what was updated in the "B".

The B has a different cabinet, I'm not sure if it's true but the shop I bought it from said the samples had been updated also. I tried the C1 and G1b back to back and the G1 just sounded better, but whether that was due to samples or the speaker systems is hard to tell.

Ah, the "B" means "back plate". ๐ ![[Linked Image]](https://cdn.korg.com/us/products/upload/1ece8c4761bb680a7c09b4749819fcb1_sp.jpg) The back used to be open below the speaker box.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade - and of course this is just my opinion....
I had a G1 Air (with the back plate - there's nothing new or updated about it). I gave it away. The main pianos have four layer samples with no interpolation at all - it plays like a 20 year old digital piano sound engine - the jump between layers was very badly handled, especially going into forte. The action feels nice in my opinion but some keys went clicky within days of getting it. The Japan grand sounds awful. The Austrian (Bosie) was tonally quite nice and the German (Steinway) was usable. But none of the piano sounds have a convincing ppp layer - they play too boldly (they don't have the timbre of a convincing pianissimo) when you try to play very softly, which consequently you can't really. Its real-world polyphony is 30 which is some way off what is now considered necessary.
It was loud; ear-splittingly loud if you wanted it to be so it'll fill a room with sound very well. Although the cabinet is quite low quality (uneven gaps at each end of the main keyboard section and tightening the screws on the back board made the textured back board foil/coating wrinkle up around the screw heads), it looks distinctive and nicely designed. The pedals are too close though because the piano has such little depth.
I couldn't possibly recommend the G1 Air. The C1 Air is just a somewhat cut-down version of the G1. Likewise I think the basic sound engine is shared with he D1. Korg needs to do a bit better than this.

I have no doubt that the Korg pianos won't provide the same sophistication as a C. Bechstein Model B or the premium digital pianos (which don't compair with a C. Bechstein Model B either). But for those of us in the beginner/intermediate stage, it does provide a satisfying experience. I've yet to be bothered by any perceived "jump between layers." Perhaps I will some day, if I stay at piano long enough or advance quickly. But by then, there will be a number of newer, better digital pianos on the market to choose from, all more advanced than the current crop. Perhaps those will better meet demanding piano skills. At least I'll have time to save up for one of them because they will be expensive.
In the meantime, I'm happy with the Korg. No clickety keys after four months of daily use, no wobbles or gaps in the cabinet, easier on my hands, simple to operate, fun to play.

I think the jump in layers is handled very well, it's quite subtle and more realistic than some of the VST's I own. I also have no strange gaps and think the keybed is the best you can get under $3000. In fact it wasn't until I tried a $5000 Yamaha that I found something a 'bit' better. Out of my price range tho. The 'Japanese' Piano sounds good to my ears, the Steinway is very good. I don't love the Austrian but it's usable. I don't really mind that the privacy board is made of thin mdf, the Piano weighs almost 90lbs as it is. This is why I don't bother with reviews and opinions so much, one man's treasure is anothers pile of junk

Not that anybody here cares, perhaps. But her ghost is nagging me at the moment!

This notion that the โsubjectโ and the โverbโ need always agree is quaint.
Many subjects ardently disagree with their corresponding verbs, and all I can say is that great things can, and do, happen as a result!
