Hi! New to the forum and hoping to get some advice.

I’ve been looking for a used piano, although I haven’t decided on an upright or a baby grand. I saw someone selling an antique Edward P Mason baby grand at a great price, but I can’t find anything about the brand, other than that he was a partner of Mason and Hamlin. I haven’t contacted the seller, so I don’t have any information on the piano other than the brand and the pictures. I’d love some advice on where to find more information on the brand, and whether this is something worth looking into.

A little background. I have had a Kawai and Baldwin upright growing up, but for the last 15 years have only had a Yamaha keyboard due to many moves. We might move again in a few years but I’m really missing having a piano. I’m not sure whether getting a used piano or renting one would be the better choice. Any advice on the pro and con of either would be greatly appreciated!

Edward P. Mason was not involved with Mason & Hamlin. He had a relationship with Jacob Doll. That piano is probably worthless.

Here's more info from a 2009 PW thread.

At best, the piano being considered by the OP is 90 years old. There would be much better options available.
