Of course I like pianos; I also like interior design. I don't like many of these "designs," however! Nevertheless, it's interesting and somewhat bizarre to view what role and position(s) pianos may have in the home according to those who stage homes. I mean, a grand in an outdoor room looking onto a swimming pool? C'mon (design) fellas and gals, gimme a break and show some consideration for the instrument!
In my not-so-humble opinion, if a room and piano are being displayed in the context of "design," the piano should not be closed as if it is not meant to be touched!

For those of us who confess to be unmitigated piano snobs, does a spinet classify as a piano or as a piece of furniture?
Cheers!

All of these seem to be rooms decorated more with, rather than for, a piano. None of them seemed designed for pianos. I was looking for something like Ansel Adams' piano room.

A couple of them with "fuzzy" benches looked like they were designed by ZZTop
Casio PX-S3000 Nope, no issues with it at all. Took lessons from 1960 to 1969, stopped at age 16. Started again in July 2020 at age 67. Lots more fun now!

In my not-so-humble opinion, if a room and piano are being displayed in the context of "design," the piano should not be closed as if it is not meant to be touched Yes! Whenever I see a piano that's photographed all closed up, or only with the fall board open, I assume the photographer is not a pianist...

Just as bad are the ones with the piano directly in front of the fireplace. How about no....

Just as bad are the ones with the piano directly in front of the fireplace. How about no.... How about Yes... as long as the fireplace is not used. That is the decision I made for myself.

During our snowy winters the fireplaces are going regularly. Just depends on the use, though I don't quite see the point of having fireplace if it's not used. Difference in scenario and feeling

Re fireplaces, a lot of people don’t use them but still like how they look.
In my case, when we were house-hunting, houses in our budget were not exactly large (just average I would say) such that for houses that had living rooms with fireplaces, options for piano placement were always impacted (and often limited) as a result. Even if you didn’t use the fireplace, visually I wouldn’t want a piano right in front of it etc.
The house we ended up buying was actually the only house we saw that didn’t have a fireplace any where. So that was a selling point for me, but apparently a drawback for other buyers.

Thanks for sharing ShiroKuro. Our gas fireplace is used regularly in the winter so my piano is in a different room. I guess the good news is, apparently from a design perspective, white pianos are back. I guess fake fluffy shearling over the piano bench is supposed to exude warm cozy comfort. I hate to tell the designers that if someone actually sat down and used the fake fluffy shearling for regular practice the fake shearling would look like a dead sheep by the piano, in a few months. Of course the piano by poolside is ridiculous. That was fun!

Thanks! That was the spirit in which I was posting. I love looking at photos like that, even when I think "ugh, I would never do that!" BTW, this NYT slideshow is of a 19th-century manor in Estonia that has been updated and is on the market. The artwork is amazing. Now all it needs is an Estonia piano to go with it!
