When I first started out on this piano journey of mine, I looked for advice from people already doing what I wanted to do ... which was to create my own music at the piano. But, I found the pickings slim to say the least.

To that end, I interviewed some of today's top New Age pianists and asked them 5 questions I wish I had the answers to when starting out. Here's the first one for you by Grammy nominated pianist Peter Kater. Enjoy!

Thanks, Ed! I really enjoy Peter Kater's work. I especially like his album, "Gateway."

I resonated to his comments about composing and creativity, especially this sentence: "Turning off the judgmental, second guessing part of our minds is key to allowing creative flow and expression."

Thanks for sharing the interview with us. smile

My pleasure Monica. I liked his answers as well. Especially the part about "listening" for the music to come. This is what I do when "composing."

I actually have over a dozen of these kinds of interviews. I really enjoyed Peter's though.

Thanks for posting this, Visalia. I enjoyed Peter Kater's improvisation. Beautiful.

It's always nice to know what piano is being being played. I don't see anything that gives us a clue what piano it is Peter is playing in that video. I wonder if it is a Young Chang? Years ago I emailed him about some other performance of his asking what piano he had played and he replied saying it was a Young Chang and that he likes Young Chang pianos. I wonder if that's a Young Chang he's playing in the video?

I listened to different recordings of this pianist: very monotonous and meager melodic material. Have you ever heard the music of W.A. Mathieu? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKMnVF5x1Ow
