RickM, May I ask you the same question regarding different piano sounds/SK-EX Rendering characters? Regarding your UI observation, I couldn't fully follow the explanation in your post, however if you would like me to pursue this topic for you, please send me a PM, along with a step-by-step process for how to reproduce the behaviour you are encountering. Kind regards, James x

The loudness is noticiable on all pianosounds via Speakers. Playing with headphones reduces the loudness a little Bit. I did not try out the transpose function, but in 4 Hands Mode the loud note shifts onto another key which usually sounds fine. Thats also why the technichian ensured me that this might be more a softwareproblem than a sensorissue.

Software updates planned for the CA99/CA79 unfortunately had to be postponed, for various reason. However, while I cannot provide any fixed schedule, I am hopeful that updates should be released in the months ahead. Very disappointing. I had planned to buy the CA79 when the present UI errors and sloppy design are corrected. Will it ever happen? Or will they start work on it a little and then postpone it again? It obviously has very low priority. I have to postpone my purchase... it's a pity because I tested it and quite liked it otherwise. Maybe when the CA80 comes in a couple of years or so it will be fixed. And it seems the quality control needs to be improved.

Are all CA79s affected by these issues? After months of deliberating I had decided to go for the 79. Looking through threads I'm now hesitating. Now will look at Casio gp310 or 510. Haven't heard any issues with these. Seem to get good reviews.

@Cutec, are you aware that your reasoning is flawed? Same line of reasoning will lead you to buy buy a Lamborghini supersports car from the 80's instead of a Tesla model 3. I never read any complaints on the Lambo and plenty issues on the model 3. At least on the forum people, my guess is that Kawai is selling a multitude of CA79/CA99 compared to Casio.
Not saying that there still might be some underlying quality control issues with both the CA79/CA99 and the Tesla. And I have the same concern. I'm already waiting for almost 2 months a on CLP-745 and it is tempting to cancel that order and call a different store that has this lovely shiny CA99 ready for delivery tomorrow. Either piano will serve me well.

Likewise with my CA99....none of the issues mentioned throughout this forum EXCEPT for a shocking and poorly implemented UI. avss01

On Kawai flagship pianos such as AURES and Novus, the UX is still on the previous version. Do you consider the UX on the previous version to be preferable? Personally, I find the Novus UX to be quite acceptable, and for my purposes it works very well in practice. It's certainly possible to be picky... it's not Apple quality by any means.

Hi navindra
I can not comment on the higher Kawai ranges as I have never had the opportunity to play or try them.
The issues with the new CA range is that since moving to a touch screen interface they spent too much time and effort on the eye candy and nowhere near enough on the practical use of the piano. I can live with the laggy response, after all you are playing the piano not constantly using the touch screen, I can also deal with the backlight staying on....but I can’t live with the file management system, the saving of user sounds and presets and odd behaviours as detailed by a number of us on this forum.
It can all be improved on with a better or updated UI. I am totally satisfied with the instrument itself. I just hope Kawai understand the importance of getting this right or they will surely lose sales.

avss01 I totally agree, 100%. I am satisfied with sound and assembly of my CA79, having opened the rear panel I could see that the assembly was done with care, and there was nothing inside that would suggest QC problems. BUT the software UI really has some bugs that are very annoying.

BUT the software UI really has some bugs that are very annoying. It is kind of insane that a $20 cellphone has WAY smoother UI and faster performance than that Kawai touchscreen interface. The yamaha's UI arn't much better though, so relative to the competition maybe it's not awful, but as a matter of pride, hrrrrm.... If they do ever decide to upgrade that section of their work, I hope they make sure to decouple any modern high frequency processors from their audio path. Alot of DC induction noise, piezoelectric noise, electrical gremlins.

in reality, in the CA79 the sound signal, power supply and data line cables are all well spaced and do not interfere with each other, furthermore the inside is almost totally shielded, so this aspect has been taken into very high consideration, I think that the designers did an excellent job. The display section also integrates the hardware necessary for its operation (therefore processors, ram, etc.) and this is separate from the motherboard that takes care of sound generation. As you can see from the photo, the display is embedded in a metal structure that also acts as a shield, the cables are wrapped in anti-RFI ferrites, and the most sensitive cable (the one on the right, probably the data line) is shielded. The headphone signal cables (the one on the left) go through a hole and follow a totally different path from the other cables, to avoid interference. In my opinion, the designers did a great job. I am just disappointed with the user interface, for i rest i think it is an excellent piano.

The "right" tape also dampens vibration. I'm assuming they put thoughts into this having built them for years.

Although I haven't tried it yet, I'm sorry to hear that the new UI of CA79/99 is not as good as it should be in some aspects. The old UI of my CA98 is almost the same as that of Aures/Novus. I'm basically satisfied with it in terms of stability, convenience and fluency. Hopefully Kawai will improve it with a software update.

Securing cables with sticky tape is not usually a good idea. You are wrong. I don't want to be Kawai's defense attorney (I think they don't need to), but I have to point out that the cables, as far as I could see in my CA79, are all securely fastened wit cable twister ties neatly arranged at inside the instrument. The only place where the duct tape is is shown in the photo, near the display, and that piece of duct tape has no actual fixing function, but simply to keep the cables coming out of the display spaced and tidy. The fact that they used an aluminum shielding tape makes me think that the designer took every construction detail very seriously. The adhesive tape that blocks the ferrites, for example, is completely different, spongy type, so that the vibrations of the speakers do not create resonances. Again, in my opinion there is nothing inside that can be criticized as poor quality control or design. Everything is done in the best way. Except precisely, the UI.

Securing cables with sticky tape is not usually a good idea. I stand by my comment, but apologise for the churlish post in the overall context of the thread.

So after reading all 95 pages of this thread, i have decided to place an order for my CA-79 and i hope none of the major problems identified here are in the new batch. This one is more for James - i'm from the UK and the store i bought from is expecting the shipment to come in by end of Jan. Has there been anything done to the new batch of CA79s/99's to improve on previous versions, taking into account the historical/recurring problems noted here? Keen to prepare myself one way or the other!
