Hi all,

After my post about wireless headphones, I got some very good and helpful reply's LINK. My conclusion is that wireless headphones are suboptimal because of the latency involved. Therefore I did some research to find a closed back wired headphone for my Yamaha Arius YDP 161 B. With a budget of € 100, I found the following headphones with very good reviews.

- Audio-Technica ATH-M40x - € 90
- Sony MDR-7506 - € 99
- Sennheiser HD 280 PRO - € 75
- Roland RH-5 - € 40
- Sennheiser HD 300 - € 50

What is the best buy? (other recommendations are welcome as well :))

Are you sure you want closed-back phones? I can't stand closed-back. Have you tried them?

Regardless, recommendations don't mean much. Try some yourself before buying ... or risk being disappointed.

I would also consider Beyerdynamic. This 770 pro is without the big curly cable (in 32 ohm variety as the other versions have a curly cable, sometimes).

The semi-open backed beyerdynamic 880 series might be a good compromise. Maybe the non-pro model has a lighter straight cable

ATH M40 or 50, Sony7506, and the Beyer 770. Just my opinion.

I do like beyerdynamic 770 pro a lot - it is a great headphone.

oh, just saw closed back... In that case I'd say The Creative Aurvana Live! Great sound and comfortable.

I have the Sony 7506. With my casio gp400, they sound too crisp and harsh. Ymmv.

It's difficult to be certain how a pair of headphones will work with a particular DP unless there's a piano dealer who also deals with a wide range of headphones and you can directly try them out at the store.

AKG K271 MKll are one of the most neutral sounding closed-back headphones I have heard for about 100€.

Thanks for the replies! Due to the COVID19 lockdown in the Netherlands, testing the headphone in a store is not possible until probably at least Februari. I'm pretty sure I want a closed back headphone. I will buy the headphone after Christmas (maybe santa surprises me). I'll go for the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x, Audio-Technica ATH-M20x or AKG K271 MKII. Depending on the best deal I can get. The Beyerdynamic 770 Pro is a little above budget.

I bought a reasonably cheap Sennheiser HD-206 set of headphones after reading they were very good for a neutral sound. Only €25/$30.

They really sound great with my Kawai digital piano. I haven't got a better pair to compare though! But did have another cheap pair of Akai and they just sounded full of bass.
