Hi all, I am looking for info/feedback (past forum posts, YouTube videos, etc) on anything related to constructing a piano sounboard for use with digital pianos. My apoligies if this has been done before.
Here are some links to what I have in mind and found in part. Just basically looking for a project over the winter to keep me busy and improve the sound quality of my non-acoustic keyboards in my studio. Thanks ...

That fantastic mystery Newer Hampshire scientist has two other audio videos you should watch.

Getting good piano sound from a soundboard with transducers will take some trial, error, and luck IMHO.

Steingraeber & Söhne fitted transducers to some of their models to play, what I assume, to be Pianoteq. Akin to the Yamaha transducer series. I don't know much about it but they have some videos on their page.

all the best, let us know the results. In a DP they sample a piano with a soundboard, which is ok if using headphones. I wonder if they should sample the same piano without soundboard, when using the speakers+soundboard.

How would you sample a piano without a soundboard?

remove the sounboard from a piano (or build a piano without soundboard), and replace it with a cast iron bar, to put the bridge on.

The strings and the soundboard behave as a system. Removing the soundboard and replacing it with something else means that the strings won't vibrate as they do in a piano.

Indeed. If you want to listen to piano, listen to the piano. Not to some modified contraption (unless you dig John Cage).

The strings would vibrate in the same way (think of silent guitars or silent violins), but the sound would be very different, and thinner. And that's the point for experiments with a DP and a soundboard. Why they don't even try it? I don't know, but probably a soundboard in a DP doesn't make a big difference like in an acoustic piano.
