Hi folks, my 1st time in this forum.

My fingers are very dry in the winter, and it's hard to get a grip on the keys. So I thought of baseball rosin bags.

However, an OLD string on PW (2003) cautions that rosin dust may get between keys and gum up the works, no matter how minute the amount.

Has any tech here seen this, or heard of it?

It sounded way over-cautious to me. But pianos can be finicky.

How about some moisturizer 10 minutes before you go play.

Welcome to this Forum, rogerzell!

I suggest moisturiser too. It is important to look after your skin! Skin that is too dry has an impaired barrier function and is susceptible to other problems. As moisturiser you might like to try Aveeno by Johnson & Johnson. It is non-greasy and is immediately absorbed, not sitting on the skin in a greasy film.

Steve Brady in his book Under The Lid has a tip, either from himself or someone else, I forget, about lightly rubbing keys with a wax candle before a concert performance, if a pianist is worried about recently-cleaned keys being too slippy.

I think the concern about rosin is probably overstated, though I have no personal experience.

It takes a little time but I remove the keys and sand them with 600 grit paper. It improves the grip. It looks nice too if your careful and keep the texture lines straight.
