It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Its December and I have my holiday piece done early this year, so I'm taking the initiative and starting the piano bar for the month. My contribution is "Have Yourself a Merry Little" Christmas (arranged by Dan Coates). Please, enjoy.
Very nice! I have noticed Dan Coates's name connected with several appealing arrangements. Is this piece from a collection of his work?
Thank you, Qwerty53. I took it from "The Professional Pianist: Solos for Christmas, 50 Advanced Arrangements". Everything in it is arranged by Dan Coates. I believe he is a pretty famous arranger of piano music. I also have a Star Wars book by him.
Truly wonderful, Jason, this seems to be your kind of music. I liked this rendition even better than your "Rêverie" by Debussy in recital #60. I know Dan Coates has written a lot of piano transcriptions some of which are very beautiful. You own a fine grand piano. Which make is it?
I am contributing some more Christmas music at the piano:
It's absolutely outstanding! I heard it on monday, and just now for the second time, and it's really magnificent. I have been looking at arrangements of this song myself, but the best I found is blown clear out of the water by the arrangement you play.

Thank you so much. I totally agree (liking this recording better than the Rêverie). I really like your Christmas music too. I would like to learn "The Christmas Song" myself at some point. I really like what you for the last variation in White Christmas. Outstanding stuff!

Thank you. I fell in love with this arrangement the first time I heard it and just had to try to learn it. I wasn't sure I could pull it off because it's definitely at my limit of ability.
Beautifully played- thanks so much for sharing these
"Music, rich, full of feeling, not soulless, is like a crystal on which the sun falls and brings forth from it a whole rainbow" - F. Chopin "I never dreamt with my own two hands I could touch the sky" - Sappho
So basically for this thread: we can share some "December themed" songs in here that we play?
You can share whatever you want. The piano bar has no rules or theming requirements. The tradition has been one thread per month, and anyone can start it.

Sweet! Maybe this can give me as a brand new player something to use as a goal. Maybe I can try and get some stock "Jingle Bells" or something very basic, lol. Super fun! Thanks again!
EDIT: Had to totally thumbs up your video! Awesome work, Jason!
KevinM - I watched all of the Tales of the Loop episodes and really enjoyed it. I also throughly enjoyed your rendition of the title track. Very well played - you captured perfectly the haunting, somewhat surreal emotion of both the series and the piece - Well done!
JasonLenthe that was wonderful! A wonderful arrangement and so nicely played.
I am trying to do much simpler but different arrangements of Christmas tunes. I'm afraid I won't get my one new piece ready in time to post here. But I am still working on it.
Thanks for sharing.
Coming back after a long while. My recent Recordings: Faber My recent Recordings: Pianote
Really nice everyone. Beautiful actually. And Thank you to everyone that has been participating all these months in the bar. I've always thought it was a terrific venue, though I haven't participated much in the last year. I have hardly done any recording in fact, though I'd always intended on it. Unfortunately I don't have anything for Christmas to offer at this time. I may later. This first one, I don't really need to introduce as you will all know. Some certainly. It is one of the ones I've restored recently. I did it by ear so hopefully I got it right. It would be an embarrassing one to get wrong. The other I would like to shout out to dire tonic who helped me with it. I had mentioned I would put it in the bar if I was ever doing better with it. So Thank you still. I like this arrangement and is part of rep. now. So here they are ...
