Hi,

I was wondering if any of you was using a 37key keyboard (or similar, that can be easily be put in a suitcase and board a place) for vacations and travel. If so what kind of exercises do you do with it? And what would you recommend?

Thank you!

You might get lots of different answers as it also depends on your goals. If you need full size weighted keys for piano chops practice it can be limiting. If you're ok with synth or soft style keys, mini size or full, and doing composition, doodling, harmony, sounds, chord work etc, there's lots of options from sub $100 to much more, and you have to ask first about velocity sensitive or not at the starting prices? What's your goals?

I always recommend my trusty Korg MicroKey 61. It has smaller keys but enough of them for Bach, which is what matters, right? smile I couldn't imagine just doing exercises for travel...

It is touch sensitive (of course not weighted) but it actually feels decent, in particular if you're playing harpsichord or clavichord instruments - piano isn't too bad but not as natural. The first days of travel it feels a bit weird but then I get used to it and have played an hour or more on more than one occasion.

I keep it in a bag that can go on a plane with a stand, music stand, pedal, my notes and a small speaker.

If you think this is something for you, I'll gladly take a picture of all the stuff.

Every time I’ve brought some keyboard with me, I haven’t used it. I guess I prefer not playing rather than playing on a subpar keyboard.
