I just purchased Ravenscroft by vilabs, and need to download the software. From reading some old posts, my understanding is that one can download the license directly to the laptop or purchase a PACE usb key to download the license through ilok. This requires setting up an ilok account, downloading the workstation to my laptop and either downloading the license to the usb dongle or my laptop, correct? My question is if there is any advantage to one approach over the other? Once the license is downloaded, then I assume all I would need is to download the software to the workstation, correct? They mention on their site that there is a limit of 3 downloads, correct? Thanks for any help anyone cares to provide as I do not have much experience with vsts.

You can typically activate your licence to the PC or to a dongle.

The dongle has some issue : you have to buy it, it takes a USB port. But with the PC activation, you may loose it if the PC get out of order. But you have 3 of them.

Note : you can desactivate the licence from a PC and use it afterwards on an other PC.

Yes, you need : a activated licence (via Pace), the UVI Workstation and the sample library.

I highly recommend the usb dongle!

In the beginning I used the software approach and everything was good...
But then the license activations were not recognized any more, because the ID of my computer has changed even I did not change any hardware!
I lost one activation slot of all my licensed VST, I had to contact the manufacturer of all my VST for restoring the lost activation...

Since then I use the usb dongle.

keep calm and play the piano :-)

Thanks for the great replies! If I go with the usb dongle, am I correct to assume that I would go through the step-by-step manual installation described on the vilabs website? In other words, ignore the icon that will install automatically on the PC?

Also, any suggestions on where to best purchase the dongle?
