I also vote for Beyerdynamik dt770 pro (I use them for my CA49 (not 79 though)), but I have them with higher impedance at 250 Ohm, no amplifier needed. I thought it might be too high at the beginning when I got them but I actually enjoy the sound a lot. I also have some Sony WH-XB900 with 50 Ohm impedance and I still prefer the Beyerdynamic for the piano. They are also very comfortable. I though I would might have volume issues but not at all. The sound is very clear. However, sound preference is off course very subjective.

In Spain we had Amazon Prime Day some days ago so I got a Sennheiser HD 599 (99€ on sale) to compare with my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm. And no, I can't stand the headphones for more than 15 minutes or so. The 770 is so comfortable that anything else pales compared to them, at least on my head. So I will return the Sennheiser and keep using my trusty 770

PS: BTW, I have also a DT 880 Pro and a DT 990 Pro but I prefer the 770 except when I need to hear if someone calls to my doorbell (I work at home and get plenty of calls during the day)

I have to agree ... those Beyers are really comfortable. I don't own a pair, but I did have the opportunity to try them once. Very comfy.

All my Beyerdynamic headphones (and I own four, 2x 770, 880 and 990) have been bought at heavily discounted prices in Amazon over the last two years. What I do is look for Warehouse units in 'like new' condition (I hope they call it this way in English, as I buy in Amazon Spain) and then wait till Prime Day or Black Friday, when Warehouse items are a further 20% discounted (again, this happens here, don't know elsewhere). So all my units have been less that 85€ each on average. Of course it is better to have them in your shopping cart and buy them as close to 0:00AM as possible, as they don't last long.

Definitely agree with this. Great isolation and, as mentioned by others, very comfortable. Great sound for the money.

I had two 80 Ohm and, since today, one 250 Ohm!. I got it as I have done other years, as an Amazon BF used like new deal, and they have been only 52,84€

Which do you think would be better for digital piano - 80 or 250 ohm? I have (very worn out) AKG 271 MK11 (which are great for DP, btw), and they are 80 ohm, and I can use with my phone, too. Probably no p;hone with 250 ohm, though, correct?

Sorry to deviate just a little, but I too am looking for some good headphones for the CA79... except I’m looking for open back. Any recommendations there??

Also, anyone know the difference between the Sennheiser hd 600 and the Sennheiser hd 650.... other than the $50 difference? Lol. These are both open back.

look at their website; I just looked at it and they state the difference.

I was more interested in what a user felt the difference was.

The one thing I read.,.. on Amazon site... these are both 300ohms, so perhaps they aren’t suitable for the 79.

It was a one-off offer on a reconditioned unit, described as like new, with the extra 30% BF discount which is applied on reconditioned items. Regular price for new units is higher, and this year there is not a BF offer, at least in Spain.

So I have been lucky! (and also smart )

I have a CA65 and so far, any headphone i have tried works fine. I have used Senn hd650 (with Cardas cabling), Beyer dt990 Edition 250, AKG 701Q, AKG 240 and a few others. I dont even push the volume to half way on any of those.

It really depends which sound you prefer. The most comfortable for very long sessions are the AKG 701Q but the Senn or the Beyer are good too. I find the Senn to have a richer warm sound, but the Beyer is great too with a more neutral sound and a wonderful mid. That said for basic practice i use the AKG 701Q (which has a tad more bass than the 701) because they have less bass presence and a clearer sound, so it resonates less in my ears when i have long sessions. When i want to check final rendition and fine tune the bass, i use either the Senn or the Beyer.

For those headphones which have a removable cable, the quality of the cable makes a very big difference. But of course it adds a significant price on top.

That said, i aldo have a pair of Stagg shp 2300 and they give a fine rendition for only a fraction of the price. They are not nearly as comfortable as any of the other and on recorded music they are clearly inferior but at 25 euros, one cant ask for more.

I have the Kawai headphones and the Fidelio X2 (I got other but those will be the main ones for my piano). I am still debating which one I like more but the Fidelio sometimes make me recheck if I am really wearing headphones lol
