If anyone is on the fence about the Modern U, I would encourage you to try it because it's a very fun piano to play.

God Bless, David I would love to, but 110$ for trying is a little steep for me . From all we can see though this is one of the bests VSTs on the market, so I think it's pretty safe to get it for that price.

+1 on Modern U. On my common late night playing round through the different VSTs I have, it is almost always present

I also have the Modern U.
While I agree it sounds very real and it plays really well, I'm not as enthousiastic about it as most members here. I hardly ever use it, and so far could do without it. I'm a bit bothered by the short sustain in the higher notes, the sound seems to die out quickly, that doesn't happen on my own u3.
I probably just prefer grands for vst's, I don't know, the modern U is the only upright I have.

Anyone that has both Modern U and the VSL Bösendorfer upright that can say anything about how they compare, especially för playing?

Hi, i just played this nice piece of romantic classical russian music to demonstrate the Sound of the Upright, to help you decide if you like it or not, and how it behaves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCEl6Eq5Eu0&feature=youtu.beIt's only a preset, I think Rich Sordino or something similar. The reason why I chose the Upright in this recording, is that they have done an *excellent* job with realizing to play staccato samples. I really have no clue what they did, but it feels so nice to play staccato with that thing. It's so important to me that I even put out recordings on a upright instead of a grand, because it's just so much more fun to play. Of course it's heavily dependant on your midi controller, but for me, hybrid piano, this is the best vst for that which I have. Notice how clear the chord-sixteenth notes come out (in piano, too - not easy!). Of course, also the sound is incredible. The lower notes get dull pretty quickly, as typical for an upright, but as said, this is literally the sound out of the box, and for that I'm more than happy. We need more classical recordings to demonstrate these things. So that we can sink in the music and glue the digital sound with some well crafted musical idea in our head simultaneously, instead of just sitting there in front of our PC and wondering how this or that sample comes out. IMO

@U3piano So you got the collection deal? Yes, and very happy about that! I should receive it within a week or so. Combined with the vienna imperial a huge hole in my pocket this black friday, but I just love the vsl piano's and now I will have all of them, and my excuse is with these piano's my search for piano vst's is finally over as I believe there is nothing better. So it should actually save me money in the long run.

Thank you for your detailed observations and excellent demo; on the recording, the staccato sounds so exciting and the lower notes are a bit less compelling, as you commented.

The reason why I chose the Upright in this recording, is that they have done an *excellent* job with realizing to play staccato samples. First, you can make any VST sound good. Second, I like the "Rich Solo + Sordino" preset you've chosen. I have gone through all the presets in the past, but I didn't realize how "Rich" this was until the upload you shared today. Thanks. Third, I agree with the staccato observation. That was the first thing I noticed when I got this piano when it came out. There is a beautiful clarity and precision to this sample. Forth, even though it doesn't have the powerful bass of a concert grand, it still has power with a nice woody authentic sound. Thanks again for sharing. God Bless, David

oh dear as in, oh dear, that's a good theory indeed...? I must agree with you on this one (still upset ‘bout your ice-cold shameless bragging) This “oh dear” theory is up there with string theory, and the theory of relativity!

Which upright? The VI Labs ModernU or the VSL Bösendorfer Upright? Nice playing, whichever library you were playing.
