Holding down key goes out of tune

At the age of 72 I am embarking on a life-long dream to learn to play the piano.

I have a brand-new Yamaha P-45.

But after one week, and one lesson, i notice that when I hit the lower C and then hold the key down, the sound starts in tune and then “dips” down as if I used a “wah wah” bar on an electric guitar.

I don’t hear it on other keys, but it’s driving me crazy on the C key.

The P-45 doesn’t let me tune individual keys. But I don’t think that’s the answer.

Any ideas? Factory reset?

You may just be hearing the subtle change of the loop kicking in. There are apps that you can use to check tuning, you might use that to see if the actual frequency of the note is different at the beginning from what it is later.

That is most likely it.

An instrument limitation that can't be fixed.

Have you tried not concentrating on it?

On a DP that doesn't support key tuning, this would be pretty surprising. Can you record it doing this (such that you can hear the behavior in the recording) and then upload/link it? I'm suspecting that you may be particularly sensitive to that frequency, but it's impossible for us to do anything else online unless we can hear what you do.

Make a note of configuration changes, if any, that you may have made and you wish to retain, and then do a factory reset. If the problem did not go away, it either is a property of this product or a defect in your particular one. Re-apply any configuration changes that you noted before the reset, and check the C key again.
