I get a lot of social media ads for Tonebase, an online portal for piano instruction videos. It looks moderately interesting, and they have a holiday sale running.

Does anyone have enough experience with the site to offer an opinion, whether positive, negative, or other?

I've been a tonebase subscriber for about the past year or so. It is a fantastic platform in my opinion. They have an impressive roster of performers/educators. Some of the lessons are masterclasses and some of them are just tutorials on pieces by the performer. They regularly add new content. I particularly enjoy Garrick Ohlsson's lessons.

Thanks, Benjamink -- that's very helpful! A question for you:

Are the lectures all aimed at expert-level pianists, or are there a range of presentations that might appeal to players of various levels?

Any other experiences among my PW friends?

They have a pretty broad range of topics. A lot of the material is targeted towards advanced repertoire and technique, however there is also quite a bit of material aimed towards intermediate. The piano side of tonebase started around a year ago I think, and most of the early content was aimed at advanced pianists. Intermediate repertoire has been added more recently and seems to be growing steadily.

Some of the simpler repertoire includes Chopin's 4th & 6th Preludes, some pieces from Schumann's Album for the Young, Debussy's Clair de Lune among others. A lot of the videos are tagged as advanced or intermediate which might help.

I signed up for the free trial back in April. At that time, Tonebase reached out to me to ask if I would participate in a one-on-one Zoom interview to get my feedback as a user of the site. For doing that, they gave me a free 3-month subscription. I regret not having used that free subscription more, but at the time (last Spring) I was dealing with a hand injury and was pretty overwhelmed with life in general, so I didn't use it much. But I was (and am) very impressed with the level of pianists they have on the site. I should check it out again, especially if they are having a holiday special.
