I am thinking of buying a MIDAS M32C and a Behringer SD8 stage box. I know that I won't get the MIDAS preamp quality but there is no alternative for SD8 from MIDAS and the MD16 stage box is out of my budget for this setup.

What do you think? I like how it's expandable and versatile.

*** I initially wanted to buy the Behringer XR18 but I was hesitant.

Looks very nice. smile

What were the alternatives, and what was the thinking behind your purchase?

I don't think there are any other alternatives laugh Behringer used to have the equivalent of M32C but not anymore.

The more I learned about mixers the more I realized how modularity is important if I'm investing in mixers. Behringer XR18 is going to cost me ~$800CDN and MIDAS MR18 is ~1400CDN. If I'm about to invest 1400, then I'd rather modularize the setup so that I can upgrade it if I ever need my other things connected. So jamming with my friends will consume 6-8 inputs which is ideal.

I already have an iPad and this setup seems expandable. I can replace the SD8 with a MIDAS stagebox later. It has a 32x32 USB audio interface too and one sweet thing about these behringer/midas mixers are the live mixing and mastering capability for the entire band performance without a PC.

I already have more mixers than I'll ever need but became fascinated with the new digital mixers, did some research and ended up choosing the Soundcraft UI24R over all the others.

If you haven't looked at the UI24R, check it out. Don't bother with the UI12R or UI16R.

As with all these "wi-fi" mixers, there are always complaints about the wi-fi dropping out (especially 4-5 years ago) but there are easy ways around that problem.

Thanks, djvu10. I'm looking for something that has AVB, AES50 or DANTE. It seems finding a mixer in this budget range that has DANTE is a dream.

This setup can support DANTE if I pay for the expansion module BUT I have to replace the DANTE board with the USB port which is a bummer. Still looking for a solution.

PRESONUS STUDIOLIVE 16R supports AVB but I'm not sure how good or bad it is. AVB is used by Presonus and MOTU (and some others that I don't know) but DANTE is the industry standard.
