Hi there. My name is Mark and I live in South Africa.

12 years ago I bought my very first Yamaha DGX keyboard which was a 620 model and I had tremendous fun with it over the years. I was in various bands and toured alot with it.. obviously taking the whole "Portable Grand" quite literally but over time I realized the detriment all the traveling had caused my keyboard. The keys were starting to rattle and sounded loose when I played. I recently sold it second hand to a local church and bought a new DGX 660....which is a massive jump in features and overall upgrade.

But here's my dilemma....

Perhaps having played on the 620 for 12 years I probably got very used to the sound it had...which was warm and realistic....but since I've got my new 660 I can't seem to get a grip on the new range of piano sounds. The Natural Piano voice is very good but for some reason my mid section above middle C sounds very tinny and empty....not as rich as the sound I remember from my 620. Sure Ive read all the wonderful reviews about the voice sampling of the 660...but I still can't seem to enjoy the new sounds of the 660 as I'd hoped...

Is there anyone else who can perhaps relate to my scenario?

Oh, you lucky lucky guy. I've had both; tremendous fun with the intruments on board, which sounded sometimes a little weak or thin on their own (the trumpet, for example) but in the mix, anything but. Strong, assertive, vibrant.
The sound of the main piano however, is more refined but I'd advise sticking with it. The AWM voices on the 620 and 630 were good and rich, so it'll take a bit of getting used to. The band may prefer this new clear sound.
Some of the problem will be down to the addition of horn tweeters which will cut through anything whilst giving the sound clarity.
I got to love my 650. The 660 of course is similar. But I'd imagine it's darned heavy to carry around.

There are some videos on YouTube you could review to see if it's just your piano or if they all sound the same to you:

My 660 has never sounded tinny to me.

Your's Sounds amazing - clear, warm and rich! - perhaps I'm just overthinking it, perhaps I just need to get used to the advanced sounds of my new DGX660 and stop comparing it to my previous 620
