1870 is quite early. I am not really familiar with uprights, but I would imagine that it might well not quite sound like a modern piano.

David I am just guessing, because the piano looks like it has a modern frame (and in Chrome) So does that not mean the sounboard would be new as well. Those are similar Abel hammers to my piano. (with the dark felt) In fact .interior of the piano looks so new that I wonder whether Sauter rebuilt this piano. In the description of the piano, the piano is described as new.

It is a beautiful older vertical piano indeed. Looks like it was meticulously restored to a very high degree.

Rick True Rickster ! I love these big old pianos. Those legs are really interesting. I am not sure if the actual plate is original (it still has its bronze colour) Also if it still has the same soundboard. That I suppose would mean it still has the original sound. The hammers look like Abel , but seen not perfectly in line. Perhaps something was depressing some keys when the picture was taken .

The website says, Year: 1870, then: New. What does that mean?
€12,500.00 ($19,386.00 Canadian) for a 150 year old Sauter upright piano? What am I missing?

Yes I do not understand- perhaps rebuilt = new .That is what I mean.Perhaps only the cabinet is old ? Per Google translate: For the lover of the very special: Modern technology made in Germany in a case from the 1870s with one of the finest veneers and a matching keyboard. A new piano in an antique rosewood case, special keyboard padoucobo keys with ebony overlay. The price of this single piece is below the manufacturer's recommended retail price for the series model!

I wonder what they mean "msrp on that model series "? There is no a model still being made today that is a138 size .Perhaps they mean other pianos ( models from 1870 ? )How can one know that ? (Perhaps an old catologue ????, even more confusing) Sauter made very few pianos in 1870 and of course many have been destroyed. The rarity of such a piano was why I posted this. Perhaps they are relating the price to modern 130 size pianos Thanks for the translation. (I forget to use Google translate )
