I listened to this at work and of what I listened to, my comments are below. I apologize if anything comes across as harsh- I havent read the summaries to check whether the performer wanted technical feedback but I like to play "piano teacher" sometimes as I develop my own aural critical listening skills with these recitals..so here goes: 01. jazzyprof - Song Without Words, Op.30 no.1 What a lovely melody to start this recital with! I very much enjoyed the tonal quality of your playing. Good playing! 02. QuasiUnaFantasia - Prelude op. 28 no. 6 Excellent tempo, I did not hear any mistakes. 03. wouter79 - celestial voices and vesper song, op.45 no9, 10 Beautiful. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere created. 04. Ido - Little prelude in D major (BWV 925) This is a good start – almost wish the piece were longer. 05. MarieJ - Gymnopedie No. 1 the Gymnopedies are my favorites from Satie. I like your interpretation of this, good tempo- not too dry or heavy w/ emotion- good balance. 06. Peyton - Aria from The Goldberg Variations The tempo started off erratic here, I think there is room for improvement but this is a good start as I can hear your intentions with the melodic lines. The Aria looks deceptively simple but it is very deep and every note has such significance. I like the breaths and pauses taken. I will have to check the score again as I wasn’t aware there was a repeat on the higher register (?). As far as technical feedback, the part at 2:00, I would start that off with a softer touch (dynamics). The notes were even in the 2:00- 3:24 section which I enjoyed a lot. Watch the bass line at 3:45-4:00 to make sure it doesn’t overpower the RH. Overall, good effort! 07. pianist685 (Constantin) - Waltz A minor B.150 love the trills – you executed them elegantly. Good tempo and rhythm and crescendo toward the top line. Technical feedback: don’t fear the rubato, I sense just a tad bit of cautiousness in some spots. Your note accuracy is stunning. Toward the end, I felt the emotion of this piece. Overall, great playing! 08. Barbaram - Milonga del Angel this was very calming to listen to, thank you for sharing this lovely piece. You played it very elegantly. I think of pretty landscapes at the start of the piece. 09. Serge88 - Your Song Oh I recognize this piece, good choice! Love the grand piano like tone of your keyboard- its like I am listening to it on the radio. So calming. Thanks for sharing! 16. AlexKi - Of Foreign Lands and Peoples Excellent performance! I liked the tempo and rhythm. 17. dumka1 - Mazurka op. 6 no. 2 Good playing- the Mazurkas are always a delight to listen to. I liked the details and musical elements in your performance of this piece. The only technical feedback I could offer is just small pedaling spots could use less pedal (around 1:50-2:00 mark). 31. Moo - opus 87 no 7 - A major fugue This is a challenging piece and I commend you for tackling it. I think you brought out all the fugual elements Shostakovich intended, I also like the clarity and execution of the turns and phrases. As to technical aspects, there are a few details which could improve the “flow” or fluency of the piece-some rhythmical inconsistencies (some RH notes sounded rushed), finger legato in some spots and maybe dash of pedal to help connect the phrases more coherently. The challenge with fugues is when the melody line jumps to the LH and vice versa and the lines were choppy in some spots. At 2:28 I hear the RH just crash on the notes, do not know if that was intentional or a mistake. 32. sma55 (Shepherd Abrams) - Alla Turca from Sonata in A major KV 331 One of the best renditions of the Turkish March I have listened to here on PW. Excellent performance, I cant think of any technical issues that jumped out at me but the fluency and flow were just amazing. Kudos! 35. Flygbladet - Nocturne in E minor Beautiful piece, thank you for sharing. The only technical issues I could comment on are really focused more on the length of time spent on the LH notes (shaping), to make it more musical in LH at start of the piece with those 3 notes, look at the shaping and experiment with how to make those LH notes more musical. 41. KevinM - Songs Without Words 30.6 and 19.4 Fantastic performance of 30.6 in every way, just auditory perfection. 42. sandalholme - Intermezzi Op116 Nos 5 and 6 Good solid performance, I felt you really hit on the big highlights of each of these pieces. I cant offer technical feedback (or don’t feel comfortable) as I don’t play these however the dynamics were superb and your sense of timing and musical flow were on point and conveyed perfectly. 43. selfishplayer - (only)Toccata and (no)Fugue in d minor BWV 565 Piano Transcription Whoa, tempo is super fast! The first run feels like you are rushing the notes. A few spots where a small pause could increase tension and drama, notes uneven and some came across as choppy. Do not be afraid to take a breath between the musical lines. Challenging piece and I would love to hear it again if these areas are developed further. 47. psyche23 (Edwin) - Arabesque No. 1 Gorgeous piece, I enjoyed this a lot. The notes were very even and musical. Good dynamics, sense of musical phrasings. The runs were flawless. Will be listening to this again!

26. bSharp(C)yclist (Dan) - Prelude in C Major (BWV 846) Nice job, Dan. And congratulations on your new piano. Hope you’re enjoying it. By the way, I love your doggie. So calm and content. Is he/she a Maltese? Reminds me of my 17 year old Maltese, whom I very sadly had to put down last year. Thanks, Sam, and to everyone else that commented. Yes, she is a Maltese. Her name is "Happy" 10 years old now, but very healthy. I'm sorry to hear about your Maltese. Thinking of putting Happy down makes me want to cry. I think she has another 10 years in her though.

31. Moo - opus 87 no 7 - A major fugue What an attractive piece - congratulations on revisiting it so successfully! 32. sma55 (Shepherd Abrams) - Alla Turca from Sonata in A major KV 331 Wow! Shepherd, that was simply superb. 33. winterflower - considering That had a rather dreamy feel - gentle and soothing. Nice. 34. facdo - Sonata in Eb Major, K.282 A series of achievements - a complete Mozart sonata after only 30 months at the piano, and playing it all from memory, AND recording it in one take. Marvellous! 35. Flygbladet - Nocturne in E minor I’m unfamiliar with this piece, but could hear the echoes of ‘Moonlight’, as you suggest. Beautifully played - listening to it was such a pleasure.

I have listened to most of the renditions now and enjoyed them very much. There is so much great music here. Thanks to all who have listened to my recording, esp. to JB_PW, MarieJ, Kevin1116, SMA55, AndresVel, QuasiUnaFatasia, Qwerty53, SamS, PianogrlNW and AssociateX for their kind comments. Hi, AssociateX, it is nice to read you want to play the "piano teacher" but you do not seem to really have that qualification - at least not according to the information on your Youtube channel. Or if you have, I should probably tell you that I hate piano teachers. But, funny enough, I do like attorneys - I am into legal things as well...

33. winterflower - considering Some pretty phrases here and interesting interaction between the hands. Keep on improvising regularly and always let your mind run free. At times it seems to take ages to become fluent, and it is a slow developing skill, but it will reward you richly later on, possibly more than any other musical activity.

36. Piano_primo - Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach#Sacred song "Schaffs mit mir, Gott", BWV 514 A simple, polished jewel - what a delight!
37. Greta99 - Valse Lente, Op. 33 Another composer I’d never come across before - these Recitals are a fabulous resource. That was a lovely waltz; your gentle touch perfectly captured the contemplative mood.
38. JoBert - Erinnerung I thought that this was a sweet, sad piece before I read your notes or the translation of the title. I really enjoyed your rendition.
39. PikaPianist - Melodie Op.4, No.2 Full of light and shade, your performance was 1.57 minutes of pure magic. A 'rare gem' indeed.
40. Snejana - Sarabande Slow and stately, the sarabande seems the opposite of scandalous or obscene. You rose to the challenges - nicely played!

01. jazzyprof - Song Without Words, Op.30 no.1
Loved this. The rich mellow sound of your piano is perfect and your playing is lovely. One day well in the future I'd love to tackle this SWW as well.
02. QuasiUnaFantasia - Prelude op. 28 no. 6
Wonderfully sensitive playing. I hope to hear more recordings of you playing Chopin the future. I enjoyed this and now I've another piece to add to my list of pieces to learn.
03. wouter79 - celestial voices and vesper song, op.45 no9, 10
The names of these pieces feels so right. There is an ethereal feel to celestial voices and I love how well you have brought out the melody. I enjoyed the vesper song as well and you controlled playing.
04. Ido - Little prelude in D major (BWV 925)
Nicely played, and I love how it feels like your hands are having a musical conversation with each other. I'm impressed.
05. MarieJ - Gymnopedie No. 1
I am always in anticipation for hearing what you have recorded Marie. It is always so well done and this is no different. Such sensitive playing, you have captured the piece.
06. Peyton - Aria from The Goldberg Variations
Skillful Bach playing.
07. pianist685 (Constantin) - Waltz A minor B.150
Wonderful playing Constantin. I can only echo PianogrlNW's comments. You new how you wanted it to sound and you made it so. You've added a nice amount of reverb to the recording. I could imagine the piano being in a ballroom, but the dancers hadn't yet started so there is no sounds of noisy feet to intrude on the sound of the waltz.
08. Barbaram - Milonga del Angel
Just wonderful. I love this piece. Your playing does it justice, such a good listen.
09. Serge88 - Your Song
Thanks for taking me back. I enjoyed listening to this and you're playing. I enjoyed your video and your look to the camera and cheeky grin right at the end.
10. Tim Adrianson - Morning on the Milkweed
That was mighty fine and uplifting.

2. Quasifantasia- I forget how much I love this prelude. Very nicely played.
33. winterflower- Every piece I've ever written started as an impovisation so I can't help but hear "possibilities" and you piece is full of them. It almost has a bit of a mideast sound to it and I love jamming in Ab. Anyway, a very enjoyable listen.

A few more!!!
34. facdo - Sonata in Eb Major, K.282 You keep evolving as a player and a musician. You took on a mighty task to play an entire sonata and I think you've made an incredible job! You look very much in control, and it feels everything was coming out as you wanted it to. Very musical. I think you've made a good decision to let go of perfection and just play. The freedom was felt and to me it made it fun to listen to.
35. Flygbladet - Nocturne in E minor Great performance, full of nuances.
36. Piano_primo - Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach#Sacred song "Schaffs mit mir, Gott", BWV 514 Great job, I could easily imagine a choir behind these notes, because of how you played it!
37. Greta99 - Valse Lente, Op. 33 What a charming piece. I really enjoyed listening to your performance. Great, great job!
38. JoBert - Erinnerung Wow, great performance. Very moving. I didn't know Album fur die Jugend contained such gems. Thank you!
42. sandalholme - Intermezzi Op116 Nos 5 and 6 This is some advanced level of playing. Kudos.
44. AssociateX (Liz) - Prelude in F# Major WTC 1 (BWV858) You have your own way of playing Bach and it's refreshing and different (I would say a bit romantic). This was great.
47. psyche23 (Edwin) - Arabesque No. 1 Great work, sounds very clean and flowing.
48. Stumbler / Dave - Sentimentale Congratulation on writing such a lovely piece.

The second piece was very serene. There’s quite a bit of anticipation in the piece, it’s a nice mood for the listener Kevin good to hear you like it! Now, there you have chosen hard pieces. I tried the first one myself – and hated it. If my memory serves, some PW member once mentioned his piano teacher made him play the “Celestial voices” although he (his piano teacher) was not able to play it properly himself. The piece must be played up-tempo, otherwise the melody falls apart, and that is very, very hard to do. Furthermore, the piece calls for an instrument with a bright, crystal clear tone, otherwise it will not sound “celestial” at all. Pianist, thanks for the nice anecdotes. Yes the piece needs some speed but you can also play it less fast. Then it indeed gets more difficult to get the music out but it's possible. Do you have any specific comments on my performance? I am a huge Heller fan so I was happy to see your choices. I’m not ready to tackle Celestial Voices but I’ve played through Vesper Song a few times and I really enjoy it. Solid work. Nice to hear that you got inspired to give these a go :-) Yes they are great pieces and exercises 10 Beautiful. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere created. Thanks AssociateX! The names of these pieces feels so right. There is an ethereal feel to celestial voices and I love how well you have brought out the melody. I enjoyed the vesper song as well and you controlled playing. KevinM thanks, also for the comments on bringing out the melody. Yes that's important and good that you mention because after playing it so long there's always the risk that you think you bring out the melody while it's not in fact.

I have been taking notes on my phone while listening to the recital little by little over the last week, so I'll start uploading comments tonight. But I just wanted to pop in and say that I have now listened to all of the recital pieces. Wow!!! This is one amazing recital!! I will definitely be listening to it over and over. There are so many pieces that I know and love, and that were performed so well. And then others that are new to me that I really enjoyed hearing. To everyone who has commented on my piece, thank you! I will write personalized notes later, but thank you thank you thank you! Your comments (esp. about this piece) mean the world to me! This is such an amazing group of pianists, and I am proud to be among you. Also, I can't think of a better way to commemorate the 60th recital.

That was a successful recital with consistently polished and accomplished performances! Congratulations everyone, and thanks Sam for your hard work! First batch of comments: 1. jazzyprof - Song Without Words, Op.30 no.1Nice job! An enjoyable and suitably soothing performance. 2. QuasiUnaFantasia - Prelude op. 28 no. 6I'm not sure what kind of decisions you had to make, but the final product sounds good! 3. wouter79 - celestial voices and vesper song, op.45 no9, 10A fine-sounding piano! It seems to be quite a technically demanding, and you do a good job of delivering a smooth performance. My favourite part is probably the 2nd piece. 4. Ido - Little prelude in D major (BWV 925)Nice and confident Bach performance! 5. MarieJ - Gymnopedie No. 1thanks for this enjoyable and even performance, Marie. Challenging yourself has definitely born fruit. 6. Peyton - Aria from The Goldberg VariationsI do remember Sam's skilful performance of this piece, but it did not stop me from enjoying yours. Bach's Aria is really a wonderful piece and you do it justice with this gentle and polished performance. 7. pianist685 (Constantin) - Waltz A minor B.150A consistenly enjoyable and expressive performance. Ms. Poon did a good job of inspiring you! 8. Barbaram - Milonga del AngelI'm not familiar with this piece. Good job with this even and sensitive performance. Thanks for sharing that useful tip about listening to the composer's own performance! 9. Serge88 - Your SongSir ELton John is the one who inspired Uematsu - whose music I'm infatuated with - to become a musician, and I think I can see why. A thoroughly enjoyable performance of Your Song with a sensible mix of different versions. 10. Tim Adrianson - Morning on the MilkweedI agree that this is a really interesting piece and enjoy its energetic and buoyant mood. 22. Calavera - You're Not Alone Beautifully played, very evocative music, although I don’t know what it was originally composed to evoke! I have had no exposure to this or any video game, anyway not since the text version of HH Guide to the Galaxy, which not only had no music, it didn’t even have pictures! This music conjures up images of a long and sometimes difficult journey, with highs and lows, resting places and discoveries. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure what Uematsu was trying to evoke, or whether he was trying to evoke anything at all. He composed the piece before he knew how his superiors would include it in the game. No music and no pictures? That doesn't sound like much of a guide to the galaxy to me. 22. Calavera - You're Not Alone I am clueless when it comes to this kind of music - I suppose if you have played the games then they carry more emotional content? But well done - sounds great! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Sam! I personally loved the piece long before I knew anything about how it was used in the game. 22. Calavera - You're Not Alone I really enjoy your musical selections. You’ve even inspired me to download some game music…so much good stuff out there that I was not aware of. This piece has a lot of dynamic variation and I thought you managed that very well. Really nice playing. Thanks Jen. I'm just happy to spread the love.

30. Purrblast - Prelude in E minor I was surprised that I wound up liking your performance of this piece. Why? Because you’ve been playing for only 2.5 years. And while this piece looks easy on the surface, I think it’s actually deceptively difficult. In between the sparse notes in the piece are many decisions left up to the pianist to make. And so making this piece sound convincing is not so easy. While I feel you could still stand to polish it up further with some broader dynamics and by introducing a bit of rubato in some key places, I think you do turn in a solid performance. Congratulations! Also congratulations on your partner’s new baby girl! (I’m going to assume it’s yours, haha.) Thank you for listening. Every kind comment is encouraging, but for beginner like me I especially appreciate comments with any technical feedback. That's one of the reasons why I try to add video link every time. The piece was assigned to me probably to break long streak of Bach's Little Preludes (I'm learning my 9th now and they don't feel much easier). I will definitelly return to it some day or maybe it will grow with me as I'd like to keep it in my repertoire. Oh, and I am happy father

4. Ido- Beautifully done. Really smooth and well played. 21.Rachtoven- Such a lovely piece, I just never get tired of listening to it. Nicely played... and welcome to the forum. 22. Calvera- A nice piece. Is there a song that goes with it? Sounds like there should be. Well played... I love those sparkling high notes. 24. meganr- Well played. I even like the sound quality, it gives it a real recital feel. I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. I'm in the same boat... 91 years old, ALS and still living at home. She also lives 350 miles away so the commute is a bit much. (But she has a grand piano I keep tuned! )

11. vte - Andante from Sonatina Op 55 No 4
I enjoyed this. You have a good feel for the piano it seems. Looking forward to following your progress.
13. Rich D. - Argentinian Dance No. 2
Haunting, beautiful. So well played, your piano tone is perfect for it.
14. AndresVel (Andres) - Minuet in G minor (BWV Anh. 115)
Another new to the piano who shows a lovely touch. Your ornaments and little trills are done so well. I am jealous.
15. Mosotti - Arietta
Dreamy, beautifully played.
16. AlexKi - Of Foreign Lands and Peoples
I love this piece. You have played it so well, you keep it moving nicely even with the slower tempo. I enjoyed listening to it.

Do you have any specific comments on my performance? I am not satisfied with my own recording of the "Celestial Voices" at all, since I did not get the accompanying notes even. So, as somebody who is not able to play this piece accurately, I should probably not comment on your performance. Talking is so cheap… But since you invited me, well, you did very well on the Vesper Song with fine dynamics and a beautifully soft accompaniment. That was fun to listen to. In “Celestial Voices” you have the same difficulty as I: the notes of the accompaniment are uneven, and the slower one plays this piece the more it can be heard. Second, it would be nicer if the accompaniment was softer, but I know many acoustic instruments have their limitations there and sometimes give no sound at all when the keys are touched softly. Third, I find the sound of your recording too direct and “dry” and would prefer some more reverb. Just my subjective and non-representative point of view, others might disagree.

Nice choice. Such an underplayed composer and yet he was such a mover and shaker in his time. Well played Wouter. Always fun to hear you just getting better and better. Thanks Peyton! Yes, he has nice pieces but I think there were just too many piano celebrities in his time to get noticed.

A fine-sounding piano! It seems to be quite a technically demanding, and you do a good job of delivering a smooth performance. My favourite part is probably the 2nd piece. Calavera, thanks yes it sounds really nice, combined with good mics. The first one is indeed a few specific technically challenges, the second one is easier.

Thanks Constantin/Pianist for the detailed feedback! No, why would it be inappropriate to comment on something you can't play? On the contrary, you even tried and you know the difficulties. And even then, what matters is what you hear, not what you can play. I suspect with 'notes of the accompaniment are uneven' you mean an unevenness in the volume - as timing sounds fine to me. Thanks but sorry but I just don't hear the unevenness. Maybe I played it too long, maybe I'll hear it one day. Till that day, there's nothing I can do with this. Yes I'd love to play the accompaniment softer. As in the vesper's song. But my hand is not as stable with celestial voices as it is with vespers song, because of the large stretching of the hand and continuous switching of fingers. Maybe I can gain more control of the hand over the years or maybe I learn some trick one day to get this better... But I learned a lot from this piece anyway.
