It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Yay, two things to celebrate today: Foxy's piano arrived safely and Kawai James is back!
Cheers bud! Remember that conversation we've been having for the past 1.5 years - This has been a rather LONG purchase process!
Thanks for all your help mate!!!

You mentioned a tropical storm. Where are you located. I'm guessing Florida, but that's just a guess.
Thanks MacMacMac! :-) Very much looking forward to enjoying the piano. Said in a prior post, would have loved to have stretched to an N1X, but for now this is going to serve myself and my wife wonderfully. I've 'stuffed around' on the piano for years. Whilst my wife is an accomplished player but struggles to improvise. If we could only merge our skills together! haha!
Re: my location, Your friend CyberGene worked it out in the post below! :-)
I reside in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia - We're isolated pretty much from the rest of Australia. A long way from anything, but it's home.
Re: the doggies - yes, definitely guarding it for Lisa to play it when she gets home ( in about 45 mins! )

You got it my friend! :-) Nice work!
The user alias, 'Foxy' was taken, so thought I'd add a country identifier :-)
Lisa was actually RAPT that we didn't have to put the thing together! hahahaha.
Ok, it's 1am here now and bed is calling!
Immediate reactions: I'm loving the key-action! It doesn't feel heavy to me. I wouldn't call it 'super-light' but feels really nice. Speakers: OMG - Being the time that it is and not wanting to wake our neighbours we've got it at 50% and it's more the loud enough. Cabinet Finish: Looks delightful in the Matte Black Headphones: The binural sampling is a wow. Seriously feels like everyone can hear you playing. Wife Status: VERY VERY happy! She's still playing the piano now <hahaha>
Will do some videos over the next few days and upload!
Foxy, congratulations!! Looks wonderful. I think it is great that you and your wife can share in the joy (even if it means sometimes having to wait your turn!)
I found out that 745 in polished ebony is indeed arriving for some dealers in the US, but sadly no word from mine yet. Hopefully soon!

Congrats ! This picture made my day ! Beautiful !!! Happy Foxy, happy wife and happy dogs !
That's really exciting, Foxy! Thanks for the pictures. I'm very happy for you!
Wow, that would be great if you could upload a video! As you know, there is almost nothing on YouTube for the 785 right now, so you have a real opportunity to be the hero of the internet. It would be especially great to get an actual song (or part of one) with an external recording instead of line-out. But whatever you upload will be very appreciated!

I'm very jealous. My local distributor of Clavinovas said I shouldn't expect the 785 before spring next year. And if I want to actually try one on the show floor, well that might never happen It would be such a leap of faith.
Out of curiosity, today I played the new 700. The best out of the pack is clearly the 745. They have fixed 2 of the 3 problems I have with the 575 - the keyboard is light and the speakers produce good sound. However, the distorted samples are still there. Hadn’t I already had a CLP at home, I’d have bought the 745
The 735 sounds too entry-level and the keyboard of 775 is too heavy. The touch display is very beautifully implemented, though.
The CLPx3x has always been a lowly piano (an Arius with a nicer finish). The CLPx8x has always been a premium piano. The CLPx4x has been (for many people) the Goldilocks "just right" piano in the middle.
But the CLPx7x has usually been a wildcard. In the 200 era, the CLP270 was very nearly as good as the CLP280, but for a lot less money. Thereafter Yamaha must have learned a lesson. They degraded the CLPx7x models so that they were not much better than the CLPx4x ... while still being much more expensive.
So for me the only reasonable choices have been CLPx4x or CLPx8x, depending on the budget.

Decided to purchase the 785 today from a local city store. Estimated delivery is before Christmas, this is a very big upgrade for me, I currently have a Kawai KDP 90, I'm so excited I see there is a thread for Kawai CA 79 and 99 owners Club, we should open one for ourself =]]

Thanks, my friend :-)
Yes, it was really special when Lisa got home - She was so chuffed!
I've just created a little youtube video and uploaded - link as at the end of this post. PLEASE be gentle, I'm a beginner and have MUCH to learn.

MATE!!!!! Thanks bud! It's been a long time coming. As in a two year wait! A bit surreal to be true.
Oki dokie. I've uploaded a little video - see below. I want you now, I'm a crap player. But in many ways, that's simply the reality of right now. I'll learn. I'll improve and hopefully soon, I'll start to actually read music. I've never learnt :-(
However, just recently I've signed up for the online pianote course which is great. So slowly getting there mate.
Hey, when you say you want an external recording what do you mean? If I can do it, I'll go for it. just tell me what you want!

Thank you! I'm loving it! :-) Hopefully more of these units will start getting shifted.

Hi Mareg,
When I spoke to Yamaha Australia they said that only about 10 or 20 units of the 785 were being shipped to Australia for a November arrival. Otherwise, it would have been a wait until February.
I went on a leap of faith, but ONLY because I'd spent a heap of time playing with the 685 the year before ( and yes, did find the key action heavy!) However, I'm not finding that in the 785 - Note, though. I haven't compared it to really anything else. So my opinion is really not worth that much. I simply don't know mate.
Good luck with your decision-making process! It's a tough call.
I can say though, from my perspective, there is not a single buyer's regret.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. It's sooooooo nice to have a musical instrument back in my life. To get home from work and relax, play a few notes and unwind from the day. To learn new songs, to learn to read music etc.
geezzz, will i end up doing a 'One Year of Piano Progression' video! hahaha. maybe???
Here's the video of the CLP-785 in action.
i can see straight away though, that i need to lift my wrists! Awesome when you can see what's going wrong with your hands! hahaha.
Stop kidding yourself. That is in no way shape or form is a beginner on that video. We are our worst judge as they say. I know I do the same. Beautiful beautiful I could feel you enjoy that piano a lot 😁👌
That video is great! It is exactly what I was hoping for. By "external recording," I just meant a recording of the piano as it sounds through its speakers... not through its line-out. I get that many people prefer the line-out sound, but I'm amazed that so many piano dealers online *only* display that sound in their demos. Seeing as the speaker system is one of the main selling points of the CLP 785, refusing to capture how good that is feels like trying to sell a graphics card and then playing an 8-bit, retro arcade game on it! (Not a perfect analogy, but hopefully good enough)
Incidentally, this is exactly what happened in an otherwise great new demo of the clp 785 by Riverton Piano Company. Notice that it sounds exactly the same as their video of the CLP 745.
You sell yourself short. We all have a lot to learn, but I enjoyed listening to you play! Looking at the YouTube comments, it seems others agree.
If you decide to do another video, it would be cool to hear the Bosendorfer sound in a song. However, I'm actually completely satisfied by the video you already posted! I've been looking forward to hearing the CLP 785 in a decent recording and you provided it. Thanks so much!
