After a 3 month wait, My Yamaha U3 has made it to its new home from Japan. Nothing like an early Christmas present to myself.

Awesome! Congratulations! I also gifted myself a U3 back in December last year and have been very happy with it.

What a beauty. Congratulations. Looks just like mine, but even bigger.

Of all the uprights i,ve ever played it is about as good as it gets.

About the only thing I don't care much about it, is the music stand. It's too small and flimsy, but not high priority when everything else has been bang on. Even my tuner loves it and is never in a hurry to leave.

Great choice ... You'll be pleased I'm sure. Oh and the better the upright, the harder they are to play nice. It will all be well worth your effort though.

Sorry but your last statement is pretty contradictory IMHO. Generally the taller uprights make it easier to achieve full dynamic range. Taller uprights have better actions and longer keys. Or did I misunderstand your comment? Apologies in advance if I did.

That's OK. What I mean by that is a better instrument is more precise, and as such the musician needs to be more precise as well and particularly with their control of touch and ultimately tone control. Anything out of whack is likely to be noticed now, that would not likely be noticed on a lesser instrument. Also, usually everything is a bit stiffer and heavier touch which makes the transition not entirely seamless. Took me a few months to get used to the pedals among other things. All good fun though.
