Hi there!

I am trying to figure out the key of Malcolm Arnold's modern piece, The Buccaneer, and would be most grateful if anyone could tell me. There is one sharp in the key signature, yet it doesn't seem to me to be in G major or E minor?! It feels like possibly B minor, but I don't know how, when the key signature has only one sharp! Any insight would be gratefully received!!

Thanks in advance

I's closer to B minor but as you know there are numerous accidentals and dissonance. A single sharp would normally be G major with the corresponding minor as E minor but as you noted "most" of the piece centers around something B minor-ish. Good ear on your part. Your instinct was sound.
