I'm not that patient with playing around with settings actually... I got something which gives me more or less the same dynamic range as the upright I play regularly. Hard to play ppp but not excessively too.
I'm too lazy to get the damned VSL dongle right now, but I think I simply used the Intimate setting, decreased Reverb and increased Dynamic range to 117 or so. That with a Heavy curve on the VPC gave me a more than okay sound and touch. I'll post if I have something better!
(FWIW: it's the light version of Bösendorfer Upright I'm using.)

Currently revisiting the Garritan CFX Grand which comes closer to the piano sound I like. The Pianoteq lower end sounds a bit dull to me. What I do notice is that some keys on the VPC1 sound louder than others. I don't know if this is due to the standard callibration which I have not dived into to be honest. These are the more time consuming actions I postpone just to enjoy playing. However I enjoy my VPC1 and have not missed my former MP7SE a day. With the VPC1 I have the feeling I'm really playing a concert Grand. Also noticed that the keys are a bit wider. With the MP7se my fingers got stuck between the black keys and that is no longer the case.

How old is your VPC? ... some keys on the VPC1 sound louder than others. Is that true for all instruments? Or just the CFX? If it happens with all instruments, it may point to a problem with the rubber key contacts. Dust/dirt under the pad can produce irregularities in the measured key velocity ... leading to inconsistent loudness. I had to fix this problem (again) on my Clav by removing the contact pads and cleaning them (and the underlying circuit boards) just a few months ago.

It occurred to me that some keys were louder than others, but I have to check on wether it is just with CFX or if this happens with all VSTs. I don't know to what extend the velocity callibration plays a role in this. If it is a VST related or specifically CFX or Pianoteq related issue, I guess others would have noticed it too.

Uh, I missed the part about velocity calibration in the manual apparently. (Oh true, I didn't read it yet :p)
I didn't do any calibration or whatsoever after unboxing, just selected a few curves in the VPC Editor to test out so far. I didn't notice any keys sounding louder than others (yet).
Really hope for you it's not a hardware/regulation issue!

Huh, what, calibration? Im not the type to read much manuals either. I bought my vpc1 second hand a couple of months ago, but I didn't feel any notes that are softer or louder so far. It feels just great.

Sorry for the confusion caused, but I meant the velocity offset for each key in the Editor software. The key-weight callibration issues have been discussed in length on the Pianoteq forum in this thread: https://forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=6886I do not know how accurate the key-weight callibration has been done, but assume that given the fact that Ravenworks does quite some modification to the standard VPC1, there seems to be room for significant improvement. Of course this is not an every day mod and certainly not to be performed on a VPC1 under warranty, but still there may be some relation to some keys sounding (a bit) louder than others for the trained ear.

Well, I did it!. I purchased the Synthogy Ivory II Studio Grands yesterday and, along the VPC1 with the preset Ivory curve, are really wonderful. I was playing up to very late the Steinway B on its Pop preset. Just wonderful for that kind of music Love the VPC1

This last BF has been a mostly VPC1-centered one for me. I have got some goodies for it: -Icon Platform M+ to be used with non-piano libraries expression and as a general mixer for Cubase. It will sit on top of the VPC1, at the left of the Steingerg CC121, which is centered and at the left of the Elgato Stream Deck XL. These will make up a lovely control system for all my needs -SanDisk 2TB SSD to host new VSTs and speed some which were still on a 500GB HDD. Now the computer has 3.5TB of SSD storage -VSL Vienna Imperial and Synchron Bosendorfer Imperial I am playing with the different velocity curves and it seems the standard one fits the VSL pianos nicely. Any other user of VSL pianos here?. Your settings?

Any other user of VSL pianos here?. Your settings? Do you play it off the Synchron Pianos software? If so, how do you set the midi sensitivity? I find the Steinway very bad with VPC1 -- when the midi sensitivity is set to 0, the whole thing is harsh and loud. When I set the sensitivity to negative values, it's easier to play softer, but harder to do forte samples. Currently I'm setting it at -15.

-VSL Vienna Imperial and Synchron Bosendorfer Imperial You did it! Congratulations, I don't think you will regret it. I haven't played around with the synchron alot yet, but I think the vienna imperial is actually my favorite, it's just so realistic, I really feel like my keys are throwing hammers at strings when playing it. If your interested I can share my preset for the close position, I have put in quite a bit of time to even things out and I think the playability exceeds everything else now. The synchron is more clean and tuned to perfection, but the vienna really has something special.

Yes, please, share the settings so we can compare with the standard one... it seems like an interesting trip to travel

I'm still debating about getting the Synchron Bosendorfer -- there's one thing about Bosendorfers that I can't say whether I like it or not... But the low notes are just really wonderful to hear!!!

You still have a couple of days. Have you also considered the vienna imperial? It's amazing as well, and a warmer sounding bösendorfer than the synchron. I wouldn't count it out just because the synchron is newer. Since I now have both here's how I would compare them. Synchron bösendorfer + more sound shaping options + more perfect (very well tuned piano etc.) - some notes sound a bit louder than others, but this is easily fixable with the per-note editor Vienna imperial +/- Warmer sounding piano (for me this is a plus) + More variation in timbre playing from soft to hard and everything inbetween, no other library I know does this better, only synchron yamaha cfx comes close. + Has Una corda samples + Close mic perspective has great sound I can't seem to replicate with the synchron, maybe a different recording technique, or maybe be because it was recorded in a different hall. - piano obviously wasn't tuned perfectly - more imperfections than the synchron, but mostly fixable with editor. At this moment the vienna imperial is my favorite.

The Synchron Bosendorfer is well-tuned but has no una corda, and the Vienna Imperial has una corda samples but not very well tuned. I'll continue to wait and see what's available. But for now, I'm very happy with what I have already, so yeah... Enjoy your two Bosendorfers!

Keep in mind that Vienna Imperal has no half pedals. This is almost a deal breaker for me. Well if you get used to it, you can still manipulate the sound by adjusting the pedal more frequently.
Piano: 1982 NY Steinway Model B, Yamaha AvantGrand N3X VST(preference in order): VSL Synchron Pianos, Vienna Imperial, Garritan CFX, VI Labs Modern U, Ivory II American Concert D, Pianoteq

Sorry for the confussion Really? Then how does it work exactly, can you try it without activating? Keep in mind that Vienna Imperal has no half pedals. This is almost a deal breaker for me. Well if you get used to it, you can still manipulate the sound by adjusting the pedal more frequently. But it has one full pedal!
