I put my own piano videos on my own Facebook page. The music can be of any genre. Today for the first time I have received a notification as follows:

Your video may contain content that belongs to storyful. A link has been added to your video to give them credit.

I have never used or uploaded any material to the news distribution company called storyful. Facebook ask me to accept this or to open a dispute. The options for selecting the latter are:

- All of the material in the video is your original content and you own the rights to it.
- You have explicit permission from the rights owner to use this content.
- You are otherwise allowed to use the content, for example, if you are claiming fair use of the material, or the content is in the public domain.

Perhaps others here have received similar messages and can offer me advice?
Ian

I should have mentioned that I do not seek monetisation for any video I post. 'storyful is a monetisation service and work with Facebook, YouTube, etc.

It might be that you played Yesterday by Lennon&McCartney or something.

When we buy something online or a CD etc some money goes to various people part of the production as well - as soloists and other musicians, arrangers and whatnot.

If you register songs you made by a publishing company they would hire services like storytel to watch when being played and so on. If on radio or views online. A view on Spotify generate money and so forth.

Most classical music is free AFAIK, since created so long ago. But an arrangement might be in the sheet music you play - and somebody professional did that.

That is what I think.

"May" That's a big word these days.

It gives me an idea! I think i'll email some folks; Hey! You may owe my cat some tuna. You should probably just send some tuna, just in case. If you think you've gotten this email by mistake, you'll need to site the reason you think you don't owe my cat some tuna. Thanks

Every time I see something like this I wonder why people don't just put up their own webpage somewhere and host their own content.

It's not that difficult to do. Really.

I don't know about Facebook, but with youtube it's a lost cause. Big (and medium) names make agreements with Google (and I assume Facebook) and you are screwed. See for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9P-LdJVDp8 and read the (just few 3) comments. Music OBVIOUSLY out of copyright, custom arrangement by the uploader and they gave up. Companies with big pockets rule frown
