I recently moved cross-country and now my Roland F-90 won't turn on -- the power supply is plugged in, but when I push the button nothing happens. Any idea of what might be wrong -- new power supply maybe? -- or how I look for someone to repair it?

Thanks,

Elise

I'd put the power supply in the "least-likely-to-fail" category.

If you know how to use a voltmeter, it's easy to check:

. . . Plug it in to the wall;

. . . measure the DC voltage on the plug that goes into the FP-90.

Roland doesn't specify what the voltage should be, but something around 12 volts DC probably shows that the power supply is OK.

If that's not the problem:

I'd start by finding a Roland dealer in your area, and getting a recommendation from them for a repair shop.

In my many decades of experience with electronics, power supplies are the most common point of failure.

Well, two differing opinions smile I think my neighbor has a voltimeter -- maybe I can get them to look at it. Thanks for both answers.

Just to cover all the bases, you're sure that the power outlet you're plugged into is actually live? A lamp (or something) plugged into that exact same outlet lights up, right?

I agree. In the hobby industry I have checked plenty of toy transformers and usually it is the power supply part not the speed regulation part that have gone bad. Make sure it is a DC output too.
There are some units that actually stay AC and turn down the voltage. The unit then changes it to DC input to run the unit. I don't know how Roland does it.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.
