Good evening,
I have a problem on my Kawai ES8 keyboard: several notes in the upper half of the keyboard (11 notes out of 44) don't sound at all.

Particularity, there are always 2 other notes separating 2 dysfunctional notes.

I therefore suspect an electronic problem on the keyboard management board.
For connoisseurs, the reference indicated on the card is KKB-040 (B).

As my keyboard is no longer under warranty, I would like to know if it is possible to order a new card and, if so, where? I didn't find any idea on the Internet :-( No more on the official Kawai website...

Thank you very much for your advice!

Chris

Dont you have a five year warranty with it?

have a look here they stock kawai parts

https://www.wdgreenhill.co.uk/

Also i have heard people buying parts at Thomann

https://www.thomann.de

Hope that helps.

It is not just the rubber key contacts that need a clean ?

Are there A and B parts that differ?

Hello Chris,

Even if your ES8 is no longer under warranty, I would still recommend contacting the dealer from whom the instrument was purchased, and/or the Kawai distributor/subsidiary in your region for assistance. They should be able to place you in touch with a servicing technician who can investigate and hopefully resolve the issue you are experiencing.

Kind regards,
James

Hello and thank you for the link.

My model is kkb-040 (B). And I'm not sure that kkb-044 model is compatible with my ES8 ???

Chris

Before spending money on a replacement board, I recommend being sure that this board is the root cause of your problem.

I had a similar problem with my Clavinova. I removed all of the rubber contact strips for cleaning. When I replaced them I had a full octave of unresponsive keys. I had to remove and reseat one of the contact strips.

Yes, this was caused by my error. But the point is: problems with contact strips can sometimes be remedied inexpensively.
In my case, no cost. In other cases, perhaps the cost of a replacement contact strip (about $15).

I can't say whether this will help in your situation. I just think some investigation might be worthwhile.

Hello MacMacMac,

I didn't indicate in my first message but I removed and reseat all of the contact strips. No change.
And the regularity of the broken notes seems to confirm that it's very probably a problem on the keyboard management board??

Chris

Hello Chris, this set repaces KKB-040 (it is mentioned in the page). My understanding is this board plus contact strips are different from the originals and fixes the infamous clicking problems that plagued ES8 (including the two units I had).

Depending on your hability with solder iron, you my try replacing the on board IC (from the top of my head is a 78HCT138 or so). It would be a cheap solution. Of course, after inspecting the PCB to discarding broken tracks as cause of the problem.

Ohh, thank you so much EVC2017, I had not seen that info! And more, this new version of the card seems to be more reliable...

I think I'm going to order it.

Have a nice day,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Don't know where you live, but I'm from North West England and know of a couple of people who fix Kawai digital pianos who I've used before to fix my old Yamaha.

In my experience, companies like Yamaha had their own technicians back in the heyday of organs and keyboards but now they don't. However, they do tend to have contacts they can suggest you use.

Maybe find the customer service email for Kawai in your region if you brought it used (asking if they know any local technicians), or contact the store if it was a new purchase.
Unless you have experience in fixing these things, I'd get someone to check out the unit before ordering parts.

Kind regards,

Doug.

Just in case, ask the store for confirmation.

Hello,

I just received the KB-044 set and installed it in my ES8 and everything is perfect!
I will keep my instrument for a few more months ;-) , before probably acquiring the ES920 which seems particularly interesting to me.

Thank you so much for your advice,

Chris
