Had never heard of this woman before today. Random YouTube click and was completely floored by the talent she exhibits. Attached is her Jazz set from Marciac.

Makes me want to practice a bit more. =)

Hiromi is amazing! I've got a lesson on my site about how she improvises over Pachelbel's Canon from her "Place to Be" album. Her technique is astounding.

I thought your wrote "random YouTube chick" and I was getting ready to get all upset! laugh Because she's far from a "random YouTube chick" -- but for a random click, that's hitting the jack pot.

I have two of her CDs and when I lived in Japan I used to see her on TV a lot, she's great to listen to but also fun to watch. Here's one of my favorites:

Most definitely was a random click....not chick! smile

I have watched her 2010 Marciac performance twice now and cannot believe how effortlessly she plays. Her output is so dynamic! I for one do not mind the emotion that she shows by occasionally vocalizing and smiling. In fact, I actually think it adds something to it. She is incredibly charismatic and dare I say, sensual with her playing. It comes across that way to me, not as a detraction but rather like she just has no choice but to react that way. The audience was certainly on her side through the entire performance. I will be watching the video you shared next.

Amazing player, and I really like the music she composes. She mixes up a lot of things... jazz, fusion, prog rock, classical.

Hi

A fabulous musician. I saw her in concert in London about 5 years ago.
She had a trio with Simon Phillips on drums and Anthony Jackson on electric bass.

Not that keen on Simon Phillips as a drummer, but love Anthony Jackson.

On some of the very up tempo numbers she did, Anthony Jackson very occasionally appeared to be having a bit of trouble keeping up with her!

Cheers

With the pandemic going on lately Hiromi has been putting up a series of One Minute videos with her and another great player playing for a minute. I dig how she's just in her street clothes and relaxed, not in showtime mode. She sounds great has her familiar smile showing her pleasure in playing.

I think she's great. There are people on another keyboard forum that don't like her playing. I don't get that and I think it's idiotic. Personally I think it must be racist. Very disrespectful of someone who's put in the time for technique and advanced harmony. But of course it's easy to criticize behind a computer. They should put up some videos of their playing to show how it's done.
Here's a duet with Chick Corea with beautiful interplay.
Sorry for the rant, but critics not recognizing talent should put up or shut up.

They do the same with Keith Jarrett who is a virtuoso level pianist. They whine about his tempos, his vocal sounds he makes when playing, and on and on. They can't deal with pianists with same classical background, but decide to move to genre that lets them put more of themselves into the music they play. Most of today's Jazz pianist started playing classical like Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Helen Sung, and on and on. The best in the world pianist Yuja Wang talks about how listens to pop music like Rihanna and can hear Rihanna's feel and phrasing in some of the classical pieces she plays. Don't let those classical typewriter pianists get to you, just ignore them and keep your ears open to all worlds of music and sound.

I think she is great as well. I am just one of those people who like cartoons to much and enjoys comparing real people to them like the following website ...
