I guarantee you people listen to Nuvole Bianche 1 time, and turn off the album forever. I guess this is true for many modern classical pieces. I am talking avant-garde music in the tradition of Stockhausen, Nono, Boulez, Hespos, Hölszky, Xenakis. On the contrary, I find this totally hypnotic and mesmerising : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN2Rr8SvFFE......and this is totally brutal and fascinatingly repellent : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KrCn7DM4Ss

Just so you know, there’s a lot of music between Einaudi and Stockhausen for a dentist to choose 😉

Ivory towers aren't worth standing on. Einaudi sells out stadiums of thousands. (if that matters to you). Not all music is exceedingly complex and difficult, corresponding to a specific tradition. Theres a whole world out there, and you don't have to like it! I for one cant wait to hear Valentinas new album

That's why easy-listening sells, and why famous artists like Lisitsa make recordings of it. I have no doubt she has a great agent/ marketing director. This does not alter the fact that recording einaudi is peddling to the lowest common denominator. If that's what keeps dinner on the table, we're all for it. How do you know she's not playing it because she likes it?

I'm trying to find more background behind the new album. According to a post and comments on her FB page, she says it's a quarantine album. And that's she's going through the worst time of her life. She recently lost her mother

She recently lost her mother I saw that too. johnstaf, I recommend giving up on trying to engage in a normal discussion with the virulently anti-Einaudi-ists. I am going to try to follow my own advice as well.

It's a silly question to ask because we'll never know the answer as liking it is her meal ticket. Between the ear chainsaw that's einaudi and starvation, I'd also choose einaudi

Interesting. It's on Google/YouTube Music. You can create a free Spotify account though and listen with that.

I signed up but (unless I'm missing something) you can't control what you listen to. So I could listen to one track from Lisista's Einaudi album and then it was just other pieces by her (which is fine of course, she's wonderful to listen to). But I would like to be able to listen to all of her Einaudi tracks.... Is there some way to do that on Spotify that I'm missing?

Hi ShiroKuro, If you use a web browser, you can pick and choose which track to play. I can't do the same with the mobile version though. Or at least I haven't figured out how. I don't typically use Spotify though.

Bruce, how much does that cost you per month?
I usually listen to Pandora and put up with the commercials because I prefer to avoid any subscription fees.
If I am going to pay for music, I prefer to actually purchase the files. I guess that's old-fashioned these days though! :P

Bruce, how much does that cost you per month? [...] Spotify Premium costs me $9.99 (CDN) per month. After initially listening to Spotify free, I quickly moved to Premium. Not only are there ads on Spotify free, they often come between movements of a work, if you are listening to a multi-movement work. While listening to a classical work to be suddenly bombarded with a rock-music-based commercial is too disturbing and destroys the listening experience. I think that for those who listen mostly to popular (and all the genre that that word encompasses), Spotify free might be more acceptable since the breaks of tracks on an album for commercials for more (similar?) music might be less disturbing than for those of us who want to listen to classical. I have dozens and dozens of albums on my Spotify account, all complete, and can listen to any of them at any time. Some of them I rarely come back to after an initial listening and occasionally will delete them. Such is the case with the Einaudi album in question. While some of the works may be fairly attractive, easy-listening style of music, an entire album just highlights how much they are all so similar that it's hard to tell them apart and hard to find any substance in them. Of course, that's just one person's opinion of this music. Regards,

johnstaf, I recommend giving up on trying to engage in a normal discussion with the virulently anti-Einaudi-ists. I am going to try to follow my own advice as well. Well, maybe after you start playing his music you will become a "virulently anti-Einaudi-ist" as well. The writing is un-pianistic and extremely basic--not in a good way. I could write better stuff in high school.

Well, maybe after you start playing his music you will become a "virulently anti-Einaudi-ist" as well. The writing is un-pianistic and extremely basic--not in a good way. What do you mean, "start playing?" I've been playing Einaudi pieces for... well probably close to 10 years now. I'd have to go through my music and count the pieces to say for certain, but I'm guessing I've played more than 10 of his solo works, and two piano+violin and one piano+cello piece so far. I was just working up a new piano+violin piece in March, but because of covid I haven't yet had the chance to play it with my friend. After playing so much of his work, I find his music highly pianistic and incredibly compelling, and, if anything, playing his music has only made me appreciate it more. Your comment is at best patronizing, and at worst insulting. Maybe refrain from make assumptions about the musical experience of other posters?
