In Bulgarian we use girl for young females and woman for not so young. You can actually encounter the opposite here: referring to a girl as “woman” and she taking offense as though you think she is older than she is. The one in the video above is definitely young enough to be called girl in Bulgaria.

Adult women started calling themselves "girls" a few decades ago and that took off everywhere (except for Switzerland because of their high mountains). Nothing to worry about.

My personal impression of the DG30 that it's primarily a product to make Kawai's dealers happy. The high MRSP is part of that strategy: It means a very high margin.

This 'girl' can be addressed as female, young lady, or 'personnel', 'representative', 'human resource', 'worker', etc.

I don't think 'girl' can be offensive on its own, i.e. if not put into context. The 'chic' or 'baby' would be.

Bringing the discussion back to pianos....

I'm actually quite impressed with how the DG30 looks in the video James posted (maybe it's partly to do with the nice cinematography and production value). I'm still not convinced in its value, costing over half of what the GL-10 next to it does, but it looks quite elegant in the shots, which I imagine must have been what Kawai was striving for--significantly upping the perceived value (maybe similar to how $1300 smartphones are the new normal).

The included storage bench looks to be the same one comes with the NV-10, for what that's worth.

I can see families with young student children walking into a showroom and being taken with this instrument, based solely on the visual comparison with baby grands in the same room. It's not what I would recommend on a bang for the buck basis, but I would believe Kawai's done their market research well.

I have a feeling that the main purpose of this piano is to produce digital Kawai in grand cabinet to be on par with Yamaha offering range.
If the cabinet shows no serious support/maintenance issues or design flaws, in a year or two we may see hybrid Kawai in this or similar cabinet.

Back on topic, no one mentioned that from that video the DG30 costs $5495 + tax. How much are those taxes? In Europe we pay very high taxes on goods...

Every US state has its own sales/use tax rate, and some states don't charge this tax. Some local jurisdictions also charge tax in addition to state tax.

(Yes, I may find unasked commenting about people's looks patronizing, or even sexist, but I still can laugh about myself.)

Sorry – back to the piano.

What’s with the YouTube reviews - the sound is never right... never representative of the instrument.

Am I missing a trick? Don’t tell me I need to update my settings and watch every single one of them again? 😱

Learning to play. Consciously incompetent, which apparently is a good starting point. smirk

The DG30 in this video sounds fine to my ears - it is representative of the instrument.

Kind regards,

A few things I noticed in the above documentary:

1) The DG30 looks better than a Williams Symphony Grand II, but I don't see the typical red felt under the fallboard that we see in most pianos. Where is it?

2) I didn't understand why we cannot hear what the lady plays... She was so bad at the piano? Then I noticed that at 0:46 of the video a woman (probably her neighbor) is threatening to set the lady's house on fire if she continues to play in that way, and at 0:48 the woman's partner explains the criminal act with gestures... Then in the next part of the video you can see the lady got her guests drunk (who knows, maybe she even drugged them) so she could continue playing undisturbed and all lived happily ever after (well, at least for that day).

3) It looks like that lady has "2" DG30 in two different rooms of that modest house. But who knows, maybe she has a DG30 in one of her bathrooms too. She isn't good at piano, so she has to practice whenever she can to avoid the anger of her neighbors (but she didn't know in that way she caused the opposite reaction).

4) Really Kawai can no longer afford to hire a real pianist for its videos?

I was going to Pete14 that video, but you got here first.
(Note: Pete14 is a new verb. It means "offer a sarcastic critique".)

The music we hear is not what's being played. Why?

And I'm not at all sure that this young lady is playing at all. Her fingers move ... a little bit. And that's all.

And they've bast@rdized the C major prelude with an abrupt, fake ending.

Fie on 't! Fie I say!

What shampoo is she using?

(I have short man hair. I don't actually care.)

Why the English word for liquid soap consists of "sham" and "poo"?

(Apparently the word comes from Hindi/Sanskrit.)

Black Kawais don't use red felt?

(The black CN-39 doesn't either. The rosewood one does. Maybe that's the reason for no red felt.)

@clothearednincompo: you're right, now I remember why I bought a "Rosewood" CN37 rather than a black one. For the red felts under the fallboard and around the inlets of the pedals! I'm not joking. And because I love the golden pedals (rather than the silvery ones):

I think those little red details are so nice-looking in any piano. That's a shame all the black Kawai DPs have only black felts (that they vanish in the black color of the instrument body, so you cannot notice them). Very strange design choice.

+1. I used to write on this topic more than once before, but then I stopped. There is no point, they don't listen, as well as other suggestions and comments from users.
