Offset black keys aren't a big deal. The white keys benefit most from longer key sticks, or to put it another way, white keys suffer more from shorter key sticks. This has nothing to do with whether the action is folded or not.

I definitely agree, the black keys sit higher and there's almost always enough leverage to strike them; it's the white keys that you have to stretch down to reach between the black keys that is the most problematic with shorter pivot lengths IMO.

Thanks for the reply. I felt the same when I tried Roland PHA-50 to the new PHA-concert. I thought it was a little nicer to play but I didn't really notice that the black keys benefited from being offset.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

Well, I first thought I finally understood what a folded action was, but it was so much information, and I'm confused now. So a folded action can also be used to put away towels and clothes under the action if they are folded as Mari Kondo showed on the video, right? So the Japanese lady might be working with the Japanese piano companies to improve the space available so that customers can put away more stuff. That's nice, as long as the piano works well, it's always nice to have extra room to put our stuff away, so a folded action is more interesting than an unfolded one if the piano is used at home. Is that what is called soft-bottoming?
