So I was practicing this morning, and when I looked down from my sheet music, I saw a HUGE, 2"-long black spider ambling across the top of the fallboard.

I wasn't quite sure what to do in the moment. It was round and...meaty, not one of those spindly all-leg spiders; I definitely didn't want to smash it into the finish or pick it up bare-handed.

I figured maybe I would leave it be, and let nature take its course. That's kind of the high road to go, right? So with that in mind, I kept playing for a few seconds. Until I looked down again.

And it was gone.

Oh no. Was it hiding against the polished finish? Was it INSIDE the piano now? Was it....in my hair? Underneath my clothing?

How much gasoline does it take to torch a digital piano? Do burning electronics give off fumes I need to worry about?

That is all.

...and to lay their eggs..

Don’t be afraid if you see a line of baby spiders coming out of your left ear; be calm and let them be; if you rattle the baby spiders they will run back into your ear(s) and never come out again....

If bitten, play Tarantellas until you feel better. It’s a traditional cure for tarantula bites (hence the name).

Don’t believe me? See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantella

Ugh, I knew I could count on you guys.

And speaking of counting, I'll know I'm in trouble if I start only counting in 6/8 time (how appropriate for Tarantella....)!

Not too long ago I removed an spider nest carefully built on the 5" cone of one of my JBL LSR 305 monitors, on the outside!

I wonder if they liked my lousy playing... Probably more than human beings laugh

Did you try to give that story to your wife too? I mean, spider nets on your equipment but no, it's not that you don't use it, not at all! You're playing every day, these damn spiders still made a net on it! Yeah, right wink

^^

I'm no longer with my ex due to her psychotic fear of spiders.

The expectation that I should leave work in order to rescue her was particularly unrealistic... I left her a can of Lynx and a lighter when I collected my belongings...

...I wonder how she's getting on now? 🤣🤣

Are you sure it was a guy?

Learning to play. Consciously incompetent, which apparently is a good starting point. smirk

Even if it seems the opposite, I used that setup daily but didn't notice the spider nets building. I guess I was so immersed in music that eyes didn't point to humble monitors grin (and that setup is a night one, and lighting is indirect)
