Some years ago I collected some interesting user stats. Last week I ran an update.
Some surprising results:
-- 50% of all members have never posted.

Correction ... the line of data for 401-500 posts should show cum percentage of 99.0% (not 00.0%).

50% have never posted?! Who signs up and never posts? That makes like no sense.

I lurked on here for over ten years, using the forums as an info database. (No account then) But when you make an account, if you do, it’s with the intention to join in, surely. That’s a staggering statistic.

It would also be interesting to see how this relates to how old the accounts are. Mostly for the case of users that have posted less than ten times.

Interesting stats!
Probably some people joined up with a specific question and got the answer they needed (or didn't, come to think of it - perhaps even had a bad experience here shocked ) and then had no further use for the site.
Joining without posting. People join and just never come back for whatever reason (lost interest, found somewhere else etc.) I did join a Fujifilm camera site without posting anything but the camera died and I replaced it with something else so never went there again. I reckon there must be millions of moribund accounts across the internet. It would interesting to know the frequency of visits for those who never or rarely posted, but I suspect that stat isn't available.

Just saw 'stats' and clicked in.

There were 3 zero-post folks who PM'd me asking about an NV10 price, and I myself have very few posts & very little to contribute here.

In other words - the Digital Piano Prices Paid thread, I think, is probably the main driver of the low-post-count squad (which I am a part of!).

This far exceeds the 80/20 principle (where 80% of the posts would be be from 20% of the members), even if we do not count the accounts that never posted!

I guess a possible explanation is language. I am Spanish and have no big problem writing in English (please, sorry for mistakes!)

But being such a wonderful resource, this forum attracts lots of people around the world and for sure some will not be eager to write in English. Understanding a language, even partially, is lots easier than writing it (for example, I can read French, Italian and Portuguese decently, but can't write in any of them)

I started on email lists in the late 90's and joined my first gun forum (Beretta Gun Forum) in 2000. I was actually a moderator on that forum for years. I've also participated in Guitar, Mountain bike, and Motorcycle forums. I've always enjoyed posting pictures and videos. I've never stayed in the shadows. smile

However, after 20+ years of various forum use, Piano World is currently the only forum I'm active on now. If I actually knew how much time I spent on different forums over the years, I'd would probably become depressed.

God Bless,
David

Thanks - just looking through now. Seems to be a reasonably large number joined and then were never seen again, plus a few some who joined, came back but never posted etc. Fascinating stuff (OK, I'm probably a sad individual crazy ) but, well, I can't draw any conclusions.
Some of the older entries look as though the stats are messed up (eg. lines 450/448 and 2001/1999) but I suspect changes to the site were responsible for that.

Yes, there are some defects in data. Like the guy who joined one day in 2002, was never "seen again" ... but managed to make nearly 9,000 posts. smile

After that much time on piano world, one would expect DB to have transcendental piano skills, Yes ?

The way I see it, every minute spent here is a minute not spent practicing piano.

There's a lot of daily thread activity month in month out for it to be the same 13% of more than 10 posts, Wow!

We need to blame these pesky roundel chord structures, once the player gets in one they can never stop. I vote for the basic triad starting at the root chord. that will bring them back smart-ish. - well that is my marker for 10 posts already smile Good that someone is looking at this stuff in reality. One thing I notice within this platform is the number of people viewing - seems too many to be accurate are these stats real?
