Hi all,

The piano technician helped me choose this Yamaha U1, and he tuned it one day after it was moved to my home. Does it sounds ok after tuning?

I also have a question about when would be the best time after a piano moving to a new location. Some people said it should be tuned immediately, but some said it needs to wait for about one week.

Would be grateful for any comments!

It doesn't hurt anything to have the piano tuned right after delivery, but the piano usually adjusts to its new environment for a couple of weeks...which is about how long I tell people to wait to have the piano tuned (assuming it's playably in tune during the interim) for a longer lasting result.

The tuning sounds okay, though I probably would be more picky about the result of the highest octave than what I'm hearing.

I had the piano tuned right before delivery (i.e. in the shop) and then about three months later. It was a new piano so the new strings needed some time to settle. The tuning after three months was quite necessary as the tuning was quite a bit off.

The piano needs to acclimate to the new environment for a few weeks before tuning. Depending on how long the piano was left untuned, it may not hold its tune as well as it should after the first tuning. Throwing in a few heat waves or a distinct change of humidity level, the pitch can change slightly. Your piano sounds ok.

The tuning is just ok, but not good.

Have it tuned again after a few weeks.

Thank you so much! The piano has not been tuned for a couple of years. I think itโ€™s right to get it tuned after delivery. The technician spent only an hour or so to finish tuning. He said itโ€™s in good shape and could be used until grade 8. Iโ€™m not sure about it, as itโ€™s quite old๐Ÿ˜…

U1 should last for 40-50 years with good care so I would not call your piano old.

Our secret addiction.

More tunings in the first year or so will help your piano stabilize in its new home. That will help it require less maintenance later, and it will help attune your ear and touch as well.
