So the fingering on this just seems really weird... RH C F Aflat with 1, 3 5? How am I supposed to do that??

Even in my LH.. 1-2-5?? Also wrist snapping...

What am i missing?

What's the problem? Thumb on C, third finger on F, fifth finger on A-flat.

Whether this is practical depends, of course, on what has come before and what comes after this chord. Without any context, I would play 1, 2, 4.

Are you trying to play at the front of the keys? You should move your hand forward so that RH5 or LH1 can play the A-flat without any contortions. In that position the F is played almost at the back of the key.

This fingering is not unique to Piano Marvel. It is the standard fingering and imo, the most comfortable. There should be no reason to twist your wrist. As has been said, you need to learn to move your fingers in and out of the white keys and find a totally relaxed position.

The only thing that I find difficult in the PM fingerings is using 5 4 1 in the left hand for the V chords as I had been used to using 5 3 1. There is however a very good reason for using 5 4 1 as later in the exercises a 4th key will be added to the chord.
It’s taken quite a while but my left hand finger 4 is finally beginning to cooperate without my other fingers flicking up in the air and it’s slowly becoming more natural. I’ve achieved this by keeping the hands and fingers as relaxed as possible.

Cminor iv? You cannot have a minor suspended 4. Is that what it was called in Piano Marvel or is it your own nomenclature?

The chord in the OP is F Minor, 2nd inversion. The 1 3 5 fingering is quite normal as you seem to be realising.

Piano Marvel. Very early lessons. 2nd chord 'set' after CMajor. So I'm sure they're simplifying it.

He wrote nothing about a suspended chord. I assume he means 4th degree chord (iv), which is a minor chord (thus iv, not IV), in the key of C minor.

Often when we start as adults, we have this picture of how our hands "line up". The drawings we see don't help. We subconsciously absorb and internalize more than was intended. Some examples:

Invariably it's a 5-finger span on white keys. Everything is sort of parallel. In actual fact, we move in and out of the keyboard toward the fallboard and back, we might have the pinky play a black note (further in), thumb play a white note, and you'd angle your hand to do so. (As you correctly ended up doing). Your forearm goes with it. Your body works together. We play with more than our hands.

Also how close you are - experiment with this. If you are sitting close, you won't have room and something can twist up.

Don’t blame the 'computer program'. Most people have no problem at all with this exercise. It just takes a little effort from the person using the computer program.

Piano Marvel won’t teach you to play piano unless you have the commitment to overcome the hurdles that are thrown at you. If you do have that commitment, then I believe that for some people it is as good as any teacher.
