Yes, the soundboard resonances are modeled, so you can choose things like "clean soundboard", "medium resonant" or "extra resonant". This takes great effect when you press the sustain pedal.
Lovely studio grands if ever you are in need of them! I guess I'll live with my American Concert D for now, it checks all the boxes for me. smile Thanks for sharing though, $100 per piano is a nice price in my opinion!

Interesting bundle and deal. Nice sounding piano's and synthogy piano's always play well.

I'd be interested if I wasn't saving up and waiting for a sale on vsl's synchron piano's bundle.

Does any of Ivory pianos support half-pedaling? I know they support re-pedaling.

AFAIK all the piano libraries based on the Ivory II engine support half-pedaling.

Half-pedaling is advertised in the Studio Grands description
Steinway Model B Grand Piano
Bösendorfer 225 Grand Piano
https://synthogy.com/index.php/products/software-products/ivory-2-studio-grands

Half-pedaling also is advertised in the Grand Pianos description
- Bösendorfer 290 Imperial Grand
- Steinway D Concert Grand
- Yamaha c7 Grand
https://synthogy.com/index.php/products/software-products/ivory-2-grand-pianos

For clarity, the "Studio Grands" package does NOT include the "Ivory II American Concert D".

Good point! I just brought that up because this smaller B is also an American Steinway, if I'm not mistaken. So yeah! smile But I love playing Ivory, I think the tone is not that fatiguing. If I can get a better keyboard controller I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot more, but from what I can get right now it is among my top libraries, or most played ones, how ever you would like to put it.

It would interest me how these studio grands compare with the Galaxy II grands (e.g. Vintage D). Are they in the same, or in very different leagues? Anyone got any experiences?

You'll find lots of threads on this subject, especially during the time when the Ivory 2 series first appeared years ago.
Go to the master sticky, and search in the "Digital Piano topics" spreadsheet.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have never looked into that spreadsheet before; very useful ressource.

Running quickly through MacMacMac's spreadsheet, I found this short but to the point review, on the Ivory II Studio Grands:

This has benefits as well as drawbacks; Sythogy's warts-and-all approach to sampling, in which the instrument flaws in the ACD for example are all too apparent, is still apparent, but the smaller flaws are smoothed over.

The end result - for both instruments which are actually quite similar to each other in these samples (more so than in real life) due to the Synthogy house style - is that it's rather like playing that slightly tired sounding instrument in your teacher's practice room, with the lid half down. It's a bit muffled, but quite real sounds, and quite playable. An interesting purchase; not suitable as a main instrument but good to have in the locker. If you're after something that sounds like that piano you heard in a recital, though, or on a recording - look elsewhere.

That's a nice comment. You can use this to create jazz trios if you feel like it in my opinion. I'd love to hear pianos like that, though I would have preferred that one could buy one or the other. I'm more in love with the Steinway B than the Bosendorfer 225. smile

Yes, his comments are insightful indeed. He hasn't posted in about a year, but I go back to older threads every now and then. I've realized the list in the spreadsheet is a useful tool to help us find those old gems.

A discussion board like this one becomes a database over time, where amateurs, professionals, and semi-professionals share their knowledge and opinions, and it all becomes a source of useful information.

It actually is a database right from the start. The storage backend of vBulletin is MySQL.

Ivory 2.5 engine has probably best half-pedaling control in the industry, and applies to all Ivory pianos:

On the Session Page in Ivory 2.5 is a new set of controls for Half-pedaling. With
an increasing variety of controllers and continuous damper pedals on the market,
the new Half-pedal controls provide the flexibility necessary to make the
adjustments suited to your controller.
Pedal Track - Provides control over the volume tracking of the Pedal Noise
sample. With Half-pedal enabled, the Pedal Noise sample is triggered according
to the "velocity" of the continuous damper pedal. Slower pedaling produces a
softer pedal noise effect. Fast pedal motion will produce a louder Pedal Noise
sound. Pedal Track parameter allows a fine control adjustment for your
controller, pedaling style or taste.
Pedal Start - This control defines the MIDI value of your continuous damper
pedal (CC 64) that the Half-pedal effect will begin.
Pedal Active - This control determines the range that the Half-pedal effect will
occur.
Reset Button - Resets the Pedal Start and Pedal Active controls to their Default
values.
The Ivory 2.5 interface also includes a visual graph to display how your Halfpedal
controls have been set.

JoeT, you'e absolutely right, of course it is. Almost everything we put on the internet is a database of some sort, or goes into one. That was just not the point I was trying to make.

I meant that the forum becomes a database from an educational point of view, not just technically. It becomes a public ibrary, a source of valuable information.
