Hi everyone,

I purchased Garritan CFX Full a few days ago. I've been having a difficult time getting it to install correctly/work on my Mac. I followed the instructions but they're a little out of date. Since my Mac mini only had ~80 gb of free space, what I attempted to do was download the first part (I don't recall what this is called, not the samples though) locally, which they recommended on their website, and then download the samples (the large files) to my external SSD. I didn't know where to save the files to my local drive for the first part, so I didn't change it from its default location, I think it was a share folder? I saw another Waves plugin in there so I assumed that's where it needed to go.

Problem is I don't seem to have the stand alone player? I searched my Mac and can't find it. What is it called? It's not in my applications folder. I am seeing the Garritan plugin in Logic, but when I run it, it says the samples cannot be found.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you activate your library using the png file?

Welcome to Garriton's crummy Aria engine.

Instead of giving you a simple menu to select the sample library location you have to change the location in a plist.

Open the file com.Garritan.CFX Concert Grand.plist in MacHD/Library/Preferences on your internal Mac hard drive, where MacHD is the actual name of your main Mac hard drive. You need to use an editor that allows you to edit .plist files.

Find the key named sample_dir and change it to the path of the sample folder on your external drive. For instance /Volumes/SSD/CFX_Samples. It always starts with /Volumes

Save and restart.

Thank you Macy. This has been the most helpful piece of advice I’ve come across. It kind of worked, there were a few extra steps (permissions), but for some reason only some of the samples seemed to work while others could not be found. Don’t you wish these developers could convert their softwares into one click apps like on the iPad? So I ended up removing it and installing a clean version of MacOS. Then I downloaded the Garritan on my internal hard drive. It’s working beautifully and I’m thoroughly impressed with it. Just need to figure out how to move the samples to my external to save space so it’s not taking up half my drive (only have a 256 gb SSD).

Most people only use the Classic Default mics. If you also find you don't use the other mic perspectives, you can delete them. Search the forums here for tips on how to do that.

Added bonus you might have space on your internal SSD for just the mics you use (and potentially better performance of an internal SSD).
