Robert Jones is an artist who works in wood. As a piano rebuilder, I have a interest in all fine woodworking, but this is "over the top" amazing to me. Rob has built a series of instruments from wood. The BBb tuba took him over 420 hours to build.

His shop in Rockland Maine is called Wooden AlchemyCheck them out:

Amazing woodwork! And lots of beautiful, affordable items on their website as well 😊😊

Incredible work! I personally love the natural grain and beauty of wood combined with the artistry of the crafts person. Thanks Rich for sharing!

Wow!! Do they play?? These would be heavier than the same instruments made using the traditional metals, right?

Evidently yes! From the website:

The Jupiter french horn was Rob's first instrument he carved. While it is playable, it didn't sound so well. By his 4th instrument he had perfected his technique to make pitch perfect instruments by reverse engineering old instruments he bought on yard sales and flea markets.

Cool! I want to hear them!

Well there are brass instruments, woodwinds, and now...both!

What do snowflakes and Chickerings have in common? There are no two exactly alike!

It all depends on how thick they have to be. Solid hardwood should be lighter, but then I am certain he has to use more of it, so the the hors might have more back pressure to the player, or be harder to blow through. I could be wrong. I haven't actually seen these instruments. I wonder how close Frank is to his shop?

I just found this video.

This is a replica of the bugle played at Pres. Kennedy's funeral along with how it was made. Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVMVtrvtArQ

Very impressive. Always wanted a trumpet but I doubt if my woodworking skills would be sufficient.
