What do you people do with all the energy and adrenaline after a good practice session or a performance? Not many people talk about the warm down.

I like to warm down down by running 10K around my local lake. Takes me about 40 minutes at my sedate pace.

If I'm not sufficienly cool by then, I go running up the nearby hill (only 666 m high) where there are sheep I can say hello to. (They say "Baaaa" back to me and wave with their ears).

I'm usually nicely warmed down by then, but if not, I just rinse and repeat.

Go outside, start walking at a brisk pace, breathe in the fresh air, look up at the sky and the clouds, listen to the sound of the wind in the trees, and keep walking until you feel you have warmed down.

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

Warm down is not necessary.

Why do you need to "warm down?"

Regards,

I don’t wind down — not even after the rare performance. I don’t think there can be a standard answer.
It might be a walk, read a book, watch s movie, a beer, dinner, nap or nothing

Never felt the need to warm down...didn’t know it was a thing. confused

I’m already pretty relaxed after playing...and all pooped because piano playing is mentally tiring for me. My favourite activity after a practice session is mindlessly watching tv.

I concur with those who see little point in a "warm-down" and I don't really need a "warm-up" either come to think of it. These things are advisable for sports and heavy physical training to avoid injury and I use them for those activities but not for music and piano playing.

Sometimes after playing I feel great excitement and music still playing in my head and fingers continuing to play without instrument. In such moments I definitely need a warm-down.

Fine, I’ll bite. 10k in 40 min is a sedate pace? Even the venerable, humble Bennevis must realize that’s no sedate pace for 99%. Are you showing off or lying?

As befits my 'umbleness, I must admit I'm actually not part of the 99% you mentioned. (After all, less than 1% of the world's population can play the piano smirk ).

As all musicians (including the violinist Einstein) know, speed - as well as time - is relative....... thumb. One man's andante is another's vivace, as PDQ Bach would say (or didn't say).

My fingers usually get cold during practice, so following a good practice I need a warm up, not down. But not to worry. As soon as I stop playing, my dog comes over with tail wagging. He knows we are about to go out for a brisk walk.

This is unusual. It may be that the air temperature in your practice room is too low. It's not good for playing.
