I am not a piano technician, just trying to see if its feasible to repair a 30yr old neglected upright.

Does anyone have any experience removing the action frame of a Apollo SSS upright?

There are 2 black blocks on sides of the sliding action. I can't seem to remove them after removing the screws on them. Below is not the actual picture but its close.

I have 2 hammer butt flanges that have a worn out and require replacement.

Thanks.

On that type of action, there is usually a plate on the back of the butts that comes loose. Removing the upper action allows access to tighten the plate so that it grabs the center pin. Be sure the center pins are centered in the flange. If you are trying to take out the keyboard along with the upper action, that is not necessary. There may be hooks that hold the upper action down on the studs that support it from the bottom. Those need to be loosened by unscrewing nuts that protrude from the bottom of the keybed.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I am actually having difficulty removing the upper action of the piano. After removing 3 thumb screws holding the bottom of the frame, the 2 blocks of wood didn't seem to budge after screws were removed. It turned out the wood blocks needed alittle nudge and now the upper action can be removed.
