Best Audio Interface for Latency Issues?

I finally installed and got hooked up True Keys Italian. The sound is fine, but the latency is awful even with a low buffer. I understand a good audio interface can correct this.

Is this true? And what recommendations might you have? Thanks!

Start på looking into getting asio drivers og you are in Windows - a dedicated interface shouldnt usually be needed.

Definitely try ASIO4ALL if you haven't - some people have issues with it, but in my case it works almost as good as native ASIO drivers. If what you're using has a WASAPI option, try using that as well.

How low are your buffers? We see a lot of people here at 128 samples and a few at 64 samples. Most ASIO drivers won't go any lower (or will start crackling when you try).

Can you select the sample rate & buffers in the VI and UVI Workstation? Make sure they are the same. I would guess the samples are at 44.1khz. And try a buffer of 128.

If you have an older computer or laptop getting low buffers can be challenging.

You can also try free PianoTeq demo to see if you have the same latency issues.

I have an RME Babyface Pro FS. Coupled with my i7 4790k I get 4.3 ms of latency at 64 samples in Ableton while using VSTs.

I have a Steinberg UR22mkii. I recommend it. Good and not expensive.

What sample rate are you using?
44.1 kHz?
48 kHz?
96 kHz?

I'm now using a FocusRite 4I4, with 44100 HZ sample rate and a buffer size of 128, the response is stable and active. I don't know exactly how many milliseconds of latency I get, but I can play and record with no clicks and pops, so I guess I'll stay. smile

I should have specified that the question was for @lorez.
I'm wondering why he gets 4.3 msec using 64 buffer size.
It's okay to have 4.3 msec ... but I'd expect to see that with 128 buffer.

Mac, with 44.1. With 48000 I get 3.98, 96000 3.74 and 192000 3.61. It’s completely imperceptible, to me that is.

You guys are talking about values provided by interface driver. It doesn't (usually, in case of RME it might be different) show real time including DA and AD conversion inside interface. To measure real latency, you have to perform loopback test.

No, I'm taking these values as indicated by my DAW, Ableton 10.

Yes, and how do you think from where Ableton takes those latency values to display them? It's a declared latency, in most cases the real values are a bit higher (unless you use somethong pro like RME).

I just saw you have RME. 4,3ms is probably very close to real values in your case. In case of most sub 200$ interfaces ppl will see even lower values, but the truth is different wink 4,3ms is crazy low and not percieveble by human in audio.

If you want to measure real values, connect your interface output with its input, create 2 tracks in your DAW, place some soundwave on the 1st, arm 2nd track. Disable DAW latency compensation and press record. Check the distance between 1. and 2. track waves start position (display in samples preferably). Then do the math: sample distance / sample rate. Nowe you have THE REAL value for sum of input+output latencies. Compare it to DAW provided values wink

http://www.dawbench.com/audio-int-lowlatency2.htm

Here are the results of round trip latency done with DAWBENCH. A note: my interface is the most recent model, that is two models after the one listed in the results table down the page.
