"... It was the 7'3" Bechstein from 1984...."

Well. When you put it that way... Congratulations! Not the kind of piano you just walk away from. Maybe I will see that piano-on-top-of-the-elevator-car thing in a movie someday.

I did a search for moving a piano on the top of an elevator car, and the first relevant result that came up (after this topic) was from A Romance on Three Legs, the book about Glenn Gould.

When I lived in Brussels mine required a crane raising it to my balcony because the elevator was too small. A crane is expensive but it is possible.

HAPPY NEW PIANO!

So glad that the piano fit into the elevator after all. Congratulations grantweep! Enjoy your new piano.

I just had a client in an old building (the East Coast is full of them) and they had no elevator and the steps were a strange angle with low head space. Not ideal for the delivery of a Bösendorfer 225.

We delivered the piano last week and a crane did the job nicely. This delivery was last week and the total cost was reasonable.

Don't take the risk. This is not your problem unless you make it your problem. Negotiate a price with delivery included, and let the seller decide if they want to move forward with the sale. Be sure the deal is described in writing.

In Vancouver all you need is a hygrometer and a dehumidifier and all should be fine 🙂

Beautiful piano 😊. And it is such a perfect location for it in your home that it looks like the room was built around the piano.

Enjoy !!!!

It's great that you got your piano.

A friend of mine works in a place where they have to move pianos up and down several flights of stairs to different parts of the building. They have a mechanical mover that can climb stairs with the piano on top of it. It's a historic building, so installing a bigger lift isn't an option.

Beautiful piano in a lovely space. I would be concerned, however, with direct sunlight hitting the piano which could cause serious damage to the finish and could affect tuning stability.

I hope that you will find ways to block the sunlight so that you can enjoy that piano for years to come.

Regards,
