I've listened to thousands of YT videos without interruptions. My guess is the interruptions are very infrequent for you.

I upgraded YT on my iPad a few days ago and now a lot of videos seem to have way more commercials/ads, than before. Not sure if it is part of the upgrade, or bad timing. ;P

I haven’t noticed the sound increase, but it wouldn’t surprise me. They are trying hard to get you to pay for YT. Instead of making content worth paying for, they’re about to make their platform useless. Their one decent show is now on Netflix, anyways. Anyone I listen to regularly I now support via Patreon so you can get the vids without the commercials.

I don’t know about a website, but music apps, Amazon Music and Idagio have lots of content for not a lot of money. Idagio is all classical.

FWIW: I gave up on my Idagio subscription. There were two things that tried my patience:

1) I found that the home page always featured the same recordings, month after month, even with their claim of regularly adding new material. Even scrolling through the various categories, there was constant repetition and little new material.

2) The functionality of their site is frustrating. As I scrolled through items in whatever category I was reading, I could never return to a previous screen, or, after reading the details of a recording, I could never continue to the next on the list without being sent all the way back to the beginning where I had to take time to scroll through dozens of the pages I had already seen to get to where I had left off.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with Idagio?

Regards,

YouTube recently change the default setting from not allowing ads to interrupt the video to allowing them.

Do some research. There are solutions to that problem.

Oops, I've said too much.

For listening I find Spotify better than YT.

I have found that Tidal and Qobuz under Roon are better than Spotify.

Regards,

I don't use the website, only the mobile app. Your comments don't surprise me because even on the app you can't even organise your favourites or playlists in to the order you want, it's stuck at the order you added them to the list. Functionality wise it's lagging behind but I find the database and HD quality more than makes up for it.

Ubu, I agree, this is a really frustrating problem! I experience it with YT when listening to longer videos.

I also listen to Pandora (internet radio) a lot (much more than YT), and the same thing happens, they don't interrupt individual recordings, but they play them in between and, in my experience, depending on the time of day the ads are more or less frequent. If you listen to classical music or solo piano, then the ads are always much louder. It's incredibly unpleasant.

For Pandora, they say you can subscribe for ad-free listening, but I've heard that they still periodically play their Pandora-specific ads or announcements. So I am not going to pay $5/month unless it's truly, perfectly ad-free. Since I don't think it is, I'll keep listening for free and complaining about the noisy ads. whome

I signed up for Google Play Music when it first came out years ago. It's now transitioning into YouTube music. I pay $7.99/month. This gives me YouTube Premium with it, and therefore no ads. I watch and listen to so much YouTube content on my TV that it's well worth the cost.

1 upgraded YT to exclude all ads. 1 think it's like 8 bucks a month. Well worth it in MHO.

Ad blockers don't work for me. Many videos won't load with it turned on.

The only ads I get on YT are 4 second ads before the video starts.

Spotify. Almost everything I've ever wanted to find in the catalog has been available on Spotify, and no ads for the subscription plan.
