I thought it wouldn't harm to post something funny that isn't directing towards anyone that is following the conversation of few other folks and not completely irrelevant ( although I admit that those posts were irrelevant so it was my bad ).

'Being funny', like beauty, is subjective; and of course this applies to taste in music.

I think it's almost impossible to offend an accordion player.

One can interpret the word "funny" in two distinct ways . . .

One thing I've noticed in my short time here on PW is that people don't seem to know general forum etiquette / expected behaviors. Forums like many things, are essentially an oligarchy. But there's generally some consistent rules across different ones.

The moderating team here so far has seemed pretty reasonable and fairly hands off. And since I haven't really seen any mods even participating in discussions, things feel fairly unbiased as well.

As for tolerance, I mean in many forums, complaining about a temporary ban or trying to bypass a ban would result in a perma ban. This thread hasn't been locked yet and no one seems to be suspended yet so...

This does make me realize though, this forum doesn't have an off topic section for general discussion.

If you look at the forum rules, you will see off topic is not forbidden though not incentivated; the rules request adding an "OT" to the thread title. Unfortunately, the participants of PW, for some reasong, ignore this simple etiquette rule.

There are people who tend to get irritated by OT and others who find it a good part of socializing on the forums. Yes, it’s a thematic forum but we’re also human. I’ve even found friends here, which is also because we’ve discussed OT with them

I’m not saying we should devour the forum with OT but I also find it extremely dry and counterproductive for the forum when people are restricted to not engage in any OT whatsoever. It’s not an etiquette, at least not a common one I’ve seen on the forums. The ones that used to require strictly no off-topic talk naturally ceased to exist long ago and I believe it’s exactly because people were expected to act as some self-limiting non-human machines that are only interested in one topic, even if it’s the most varied, interesting and vast topic. Even PW allows for a bit of OT and I am glad the moderators tolerate it at a very healthy level. I believe many people have common sense and know when to stop. When they can’t, they get banned, as has happened to me once 😁

As to Abdol. I haven’t noticed he’s been funny ever 😲 Glad he pointed it out himself or I could have missed it. Ditto regarding the ban. Would be interesting to see the exact “funny” reason for the ban though

Imo this forum has some of the best OT discussions of all time, and had me grinning or even literally laughing out loud more than once. I agree with Cybergene and I appreciate the fact this is tolerated, PW wouldn't be the same without some good remarks that are completely OT some of the time.

Why not see a thread as just a discussion with a group of people in real life, which is essentially what it is, but on a forum. If someone makes a joke or says something off topic, in most situations you wouldn't start shouting OT! at this person, right?

I agree with U3's remarks. I assume the moderators banned Mac because someone complained (reported) his post There are good reasons to close down a thread when it gets too political, or personal, and I think the moderators on PW are good about that. But jokes are jokes. Sometimes not very funny. But they are made in fun. I hope that the Cancel Culture is not allowed to ruin this forum.
