The pivot point in my mind is the weakest aspect of it, but then to get a decent length you have to go up a couple of price brackets. Anything from Roland or Kawai is an improvement. Or from Yamaha upwards from the P-255 or Arius YDP-S52/YDP-S54/YDP-163/164. Not necessarily in a higher price bracket.

Which one that you would recommend, Roland Rp501 for $1500 or Casio Ap470 for $1200, it is a $300 difference in price, but I think we still can afford it. Personally I'd go for the Roland because I like the sound more, people speak more fondly of its action and I've seen less complaints about action noise in Rolands. It just might be built better. And the music rest has clips to keep a book open.

Thanks for the review. I'm considering the AP470 as well. I hope you enjoy using it!

I can’t make a comment about the other DPs mentioned. But I know I enjoy my AP-470.
The pivot point in my mind is the weakest aspect of it, but then to get a decent length you have to go up a couple of price brackets. Don't be too sure of that. The Kawai controller VPC-1 and the expensive Yamaha NU1(X) have short pivots too, but are nonetheless highly regarded here and elsewhere. There is more to piano life than pivots! Enjoy what you have. It's good, and you'd have to pay a lot more to get anything obviously better. Comparisons can also be deceiving . . . .

I tried a large number of digital pianos in the showroom. The ap-470 keyboard action I felt was better than the Yamaha Arius models, Korg C1 and G1 models. Better than the lower end Yamaha Clavinovas even. The Kawai have a better action but I had others issues with them.
I think this just highlights the importance of trying for yourself if you can. We are all different.
I would still love to have a longer pivot length but that is for some day in the future when I have a decent amount of cash to lay down for a big upgrade.
For me at this price point the AP-470 was the right choice.

Once connected to iPad via cable, can it used 3rd party app for piano lessons? Like example piascore, or piano adventures?
This is the thing that kinda holding me getting the Ap470, since Roland Rp501 has bluetooth it opens up variety of apps that I think can intrigue my daughter to practice more, since the teacher only comes once a week for half hour.

Though playing with apps is not practice. Practice is the activity, where you work on a technical problem your teacher identified, usually requiring full mental capacity and being exertive.

That's true, but I just thought that it might bring more fun for her to be able to do something extra, because sometimes I saw her a bit bored doing her homework practice, and I myself aren't able to help her since I can't play music at all. But at the end, I'm not sure myself if doing something extra will help her progress or even hinder it.

Thank you Kevin, I did also read your journey in other thread, where you did try lot of DP in the showroom, then finally decide to get AP470 to replace your Kawai. So, pretty much I think you did your homework well, so I trust you and copy your homework, LOL. I did placed my order for AP470, it is such a beauty, and Im sure my daughter will love it. Thank you everyone for your input.

So, wow I hadn't realised my power for influencing people. Congratulations, I wish your daughter well with it and I hope she enjoys it.

Is the bass sound in this instrument satisfactory? (piano, organ, strings....all) I liked the AP 460 I tried. I don't know how to make ap 470 bass sounds. What do you think?

I have an AP-650 so the speakers should be similar to the AP-470 and I find the bass quite satisfactory. I was playing a few growlers a while back (Sixteen Tons, Rawhide, The Stripper, etc) and it sounded pretty good (and growly).

I can’t remember the details of the comparison of the AP470 with the other equivalent I tried now, so I can’t make a comment that specifically relates to the bass and how it compares. I just remember I preferred the AP470 to the others of its class.
When playing I don’t notice that the bass is missing or lacking.

I realize this thread is old but just wanted to give a "thank you" to KevinM for the review. I am returning to piano after ~45 years and purchased an AP470 based in part on this review (and forum generally). I love the piano.

I bought this Piano 1 year ago in part because this thread, and i totally love it. Its true that it is not perfect, but for the money that it costs is totally amazing, the sound is great, the action maybe is not great but is very very good! and its looks amazing! Im a Yamaha fan... but for the same price range, i need to tell that Casio is one step further... if you are thinking to buy a Casio AP-470 go for it with no doubts. PD: Sorry for my english... im from Argentina. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/NMXRpMVj/20190920-125102.jpg) It is not beautifull at home?

I tried this piano in a shop with a pianist friend of mine and he definitely told me it was a good piano. But there's a key feature for me that he doesn't have : an audio input to be able to play along with a source such as a tablet or a smartphone. That's why I might choose the yamaha arius ydp144 which has audio via USB
