Nord Samples are ready to use, almost everything baked in.

You can change a few things like velocity curves(3, I guess), string resonance and soft release/pedal noise.
But that's it, its not all customizable like Kawai/Yamaha/Roland/Casio DP

This forum is pretty useful for Nord users and has a samples section as well.

I cannot say anything about Nord, but I own a Kawai CA-99, it is an amazing piano indeed but
- the piano at the showroom made white noise/distortion from the speakers (and I thought it was something around the shop vibrating...)
- the first one delivered made white noise/distortion from the speakers and had louder keys on the central octave
- the second one delivered made white noise/distortion from the speakers and rattling sound playing bass notes

I am having bad experience with Kawai. They may have a good customer service, but I do not trust the brand anymore.

Markillo, I read something about a firmware update that corrects the speaker/sound distortion. Not sure how these instruments could make it out the door with this kind of fault, however. I have never owned a Kawai, but from everything I have read they are well respected and a high quality manufacturer. I'm more of a Yamaha guy.

In the market for a new digital piano

Thanks for your message. Kawai replaced my first piano a week ago. I don't think they solved the problem.

The last version of the software is still the same. Kawais are amazing pianos and great value, but their quality is just low.

After long time I did decision and chose Grand Nord. As I had big problem to specify what will be more suitable for me between Grand Nord and Kawai CA99 I decided to share with few thoughts of mine.

I spent many hours comparing both models next to each other before buying the one.

First Kawai CA99, which is really good model. I could manage to find very good sound settings fit to my own preferences. It had really rich sound (probably thanks to sound board behind) and I could feel like playing on real piano. Big advantage is built-in speakers -- maybe not the best one (on higher volume you can hear buzz and other "unwanted sounds") but surely it looks better in home to have hidden speakers, not like in Grand Nord with 2 big speakers on it smile

In the end I chose Grand Nord, which has big bank of sounds and fit better for me in terms of midi recording other than piano sounds. The biggest disadvantage for me is lack of built-in cover for keyboard and needs for external speakers. Besides that, panel control is very "clean" and easy to learn. In my opinion this is made far more better than in Kawai CA99.

After 2 week of having Grand Nord, I found it very good choice. Personally, Royal Grand 3D sounds better for me than White Grand. Somehow White Grand seems to fit more to pop style and Royal Grand 3D sounds more classic -- it's personal opinion. I love possibility to add a little choir or strings in background to piano -- it gives really good results for me.

Now I am looking for better alternative of Nord Monitors -- any recommendations appreciated.

Hope this few words will help somebody.
