. . . but not forever!

My little 1920s Chickering Quarter Grand is being picked up by the piano restorer! I've finally found myself in a place where I can have the work done. It's getting a new pinblock, interior refinishing (the exterior is in great shape and I don't actually want it to look like a new piano. It's earned it's few blemishes.), all new strings and felts and dampers and things I don’t quite understand within the action parts.

The restorer said to expect a timeframe of 3-4 months. It's gonna be a long wait, but so exciting!!

It will sound great once finished and is worth the wait. You will be surprised how much new strings will breathe life back into your piano.

I love to share photos along the process with my clients while we do the work of restoration. If this is something your technician feels comfortable sharing with you, share them with us, too. thumb

Rich, I will do so. I'm taking my "before" photos here shortly. I feel weird that I'm so worried about it being away, but figure if there is any group of people who would understand the trepidation, it would be this group!! 😉

I'm happy to join the others in congratulating you on this major step for your piano! Yes, it's going to be a long 3-4 months, but well worth it.

As Rich suggested, I hope you can obtain photos to share.

Here's a story about another Chickering quarter grand going through restoration, which is for sale:

Absolutely. Of all the items I own, my piano holds the most sentimental value, and it is the item I would be the saddest about if it was damaged. I'm sure your baby is in good hands and will come back good as new. Good luck and congratulations!

All of us here understand your trepidation, but I cannot imagine a piano restorer who does not love pianos as much as we all do. What an exciting opportunity!

Hooray!! It took longer than expected (thanks, COVID), but the restoration shop has let me know that my old Chickering will be on its way home very soon! I'm so excited; this is better than Christmas!!

First two photos are "befores," then a few "in progress." Woot!

(I cannot, for the life of me, sort out the photo embedding process. And I used to build my own doggone websites!! Should the "img" tag be changed to "embed"???)

Hooray indeed! Very exciting! I am currently having a piano restored, so I know exactly the excitement and the anticipation.

Here are the pictures - they are in the same order as in the gallery.

In the gallery, you right-click on the image and select "Copy image address". Then you go to "Use full editor", click the "Insert image link" icon, right-click in the box and click "paste", click "OK" and you're done!

Why would they write Chickering on that green masking tape? Fear of forgetting what brand they were working on?
