Gillock intended for the piece to be performed 'gaily' and 'whimsically', however when I think of my time in Paris when I was younger there's also a sense of wistfulness, of longing for distant days in the past and I tried to reflect this in my playing. Listening to it now I'm not sure I was entirely successful in this, in particular I think I could have given the music a bit more room to breathe. Also, the recording (direct to Audacity) seems to have flattened any dynamics - not sure why. Anyway, I hope you like it. |

If this composition isn't a shining example of storytelling through music, then I don't know what is. To be honest, I was initially put off by some odd chords, which turned out to be errors in the sheet. Only after correcting those errors did I realize that the piece is actually a real treat to play. I hope you enjoy it too! |

It would certainly have to be his most challenging and dramatic, with his grand piano precariously perched on a camouflaged platform, adrift in a sea of Arctic ice. For a backdrop, the magnificence of Norway's towering, crumbling Wahlenbergbreen Glacier - which conveniently calves off a massive cliff of ice to amplify the Elegy's crescendo.
This is a work in progress, with my usual fumbles (and I don't even have 'frozen fingers' as an excuse). But I really wanted to share it now: the message is critically important, and needs to be remembered even as COVID-19 demands our complete attention. |

Friends with Liszt, and an acquaintance of Mendelssohn and Schumann. He lived most of his adult life in Paris and was part of the salon set during the 1830s. It was interesting to read that he was somewhat of a Polish nationalist and he was devastated by the failure of the Polish uprising which took place shortly after he left Poland. This might explain his many Mazurkas based on the Polish dance form.
The C Sharp Minor Post. Nocturne was composed early in his career and as piece to help in learning his second concerto, Chopin never intended it to be published which is why it is published posthumously, and against his wishes.
Chopin was influenced by the Irish Composer John Field who pushed forward the development of the nocturne form and some say its inventor. Chopin was instrumental in making the nocturne known for what it is today. The Nocturne works well as a salon piece, to be played for a small intimate audience so that you don't have to bang away at the piano to have the sound heard in the distant corners of a large concert hall. Chopin complained of exactly this when he went to Vienna.
This is yet another submission from me of a piece that challenges my technique and skill to it limits. It has been a long time coming and there are aspects of it I'm still not happy about, but overall I am pleased with this recording.
A calmer day today after yesterday's heat followed by the relief of thunderstorms, heading off to the shops now for medication and some food, and then a mini brunch of a crumpet and coffee. |

Actually at the beginning I planned to forfeit "live recital" spirit to record this piece in 2 sections then edit them together cus this piece is challenging(appro 0~2:30 ,2:30~end) .On july 29 I decided to do that .On second try of the first section ,It seems okay even if there're some major flaws at very start ,I thought next try would be "flawless" if I concentrate more .But I just kept playing the rest as warmup with camera still on ,The upcoming passage "Bi bang bang bang Bon bang bang bang Ding bang bang bang Bon bang bang bang" is one of my favorites. I kept going . Then unexpected happened, this "warmup" seems quite acceptable and I almost reached to 5 min mark. I became excited , asking myself could this long piece just got done this way? that easy?....Then ... instant karma .flaws flooded in. But thanks to god I didn't crush into sea,I safely landed anyway. Then 3 options: 1.Again record separately then "cheat" to glue them together .2.record the whole thing in hope for significant improvement .(But may took 100+ tries) 3.submit this one.

Brahms Intermezzos were not meant for this. They were some of his later piano work, and were character pieces with different moods, full of color, with complex harmonies. This piece was composed in summer in the Austrian resort of Portschach am Worthersee. The beautiful surroundings seemed to inspire his creativity. This piece has multiple voices, and it was a challenge to determine which one was leading when. There are many recordings, all different. I love the emotion of the piece. |
