Hello everyone,

I finally got a chance to try out the Kawai CAs and I’m ready to pull the trigger. I was browsing through the prices paid forums and saw some amazing discounts received from Alamo music center and was wondering what methods were used? I tried emailing them and the response I got back was that the price listed is the final price and that there’s no wiggle room. I gave it another go a couple of days later but was contacted by the same sales rep that this is the only price and they only have one left blah blah blah. If anyone has purchased through them and has any advice, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, I’m glad I found this forum, I never knew negotiations were even an option!

Alamo was giving great discounts and moving a lot of units. However, I believe (in some other threads here) it was mentioned that other dealers complained to Kawai, and Kawai apparently let them know that they won't be doing that any more.

So sadly, at least for now, the Alamo discounts aren't available any more.

Contact lots of dealers, even out of state. Let them know "I'm looking for CAxx for $xxxx, all in" and see if they will engage. They will probably want to nudge the price up a little.

Who knows - you might discover another Alamo out there waiting to bargain with us all!

Yes this forum was my inspiration for how to work with these people on price. MacMacMac has the most inspiring words on the subject of bargaining!

You might checkout sweetwater.com. I've always found their prices to be competitive and the nice thing is they're a factory authorized repair center for most brands so if you have a problem they can take care of it. They also have a good technical support line so if you have problems getting something you bought from them to work they can help. I also think it's nice to support a place that has invested so much in supporting local musicians and still has a large showroom where you can go and try things.

Hi Moejo,

The CA series is usually only sold by piano stores and Kawai does not want to hear complaints from dealers about a certain dealer "stealing" their sales by cutting prices. The MP series are sold by online stores (Kawai piano dealers also sell them), so you may see more discounts offered.

If you can give me the model number you're interested in and your zip code, I may be able to help you find a good price, possibly the best in the country. I was able to buy my MP11se last year for $1999 plus sales tax; the price has gone up a bit since but still lower that used prices that I've seen.

Someone mentioned getting an "all in" price and that's very important because all online dealers (including Ebay, OfferUp...) started collecting sales tax last year. Shipping on a CA piano can run quite high too!

Thanks for the feedback, solid advice all around. I’ll be emailed a bunch of other stores and will report back if I find anything.

@dj I’m looking at the CA79 mostly since I haven’t seen anyone with the 59 in stock and my zip is 20171.

Guess I was too late in contacting Alamo. I’m looking for a Nv10 in NYC area and would love any leads!
