What do you guys set yours at may I ask?

Currently mine is at 2gb, I set the other value to 256k disc cache thing.

I have 16gb ram so should I allocate more than 2gb? What would be a suitable amount or max amount? My laptop should technically handle any vst without issues as its a hexa core running at about 3ghz.

I run cubase elements 9 with garritan everytime so I guess it needs some ram for that.

The only thing is I run the cfx on a standard 5400rpm HDD, the load time is long but I've not noticed any other issues compared to when I had it on my SSD. I don't use the SSD because it's small and I have the 1tb HDD. Will it not run properly if not on SSD, there risk of dropouts and audio glitches if it's on a slowish HDD?

Thank you

You need to experiment on your system. Some see better performance with very small Inst. Disk Pre-Caching & RAM allocations. Others try very large.

With 16GB of RAM, you want at least 8GB for Windows and Cubase. So maybe you could get away with Garritan RAM allocations of up to 8GB, assuming nothing else is running.

There seems to be a memory leak issue, so I need to shut down Garritan every day. RAM use seems to creep up over time.

Your loading times will be much faster with smaller RAM allocations. And you can exclude Garritan from anti-virus, although that has some risk.
