I’ve only gotten to play 2 Bosendorfer grands in my lifetime and I absolutely loved them both. Plus, sitting on the floor for 2 years means they have come a long way towards new piano settling in. If it was me but it’s not, I’d be calling my piano tech pronto and get him to do a thorough check while I’m standing there and have my checkbook in hand to seal the deal. But that’s me. It is Bosendorfers we’re talking about here, not Cable Nelson.

Remember, sitting around for two years in a showroom isn't just settling in. It could mean cracks from central heating, water damage, abuse from 3-year-old virtuosi, etc.

They’d be bankrupt in fairly short order. I could be wrong, but my business experience tells me I’m not.

A dealership with Yamaha and Bosendorfer pianos will avoid all those scenarios virtually all the time.

I have also been offered a new 7'+ Bosendorfer at CAD$90k (about USD$67k). According to the dealer, it's been sitting in their showroom for 5+ years and they want to get rid of it. At the time, I was sooooo tempted but realistically, I wasn't looking for one that big nor that expensive.
With these very expensive pianos (except Steinway), I find that you can get some really good deals if the particular piano has been sitting in the showroom for a very long time. I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything wrong with it, but that they just wanted to move it. They were an authorized Bosie dealer. That's a great offer for 7+ Bosendorfer at CAD$90K - Just wondering which model for this grand piano - 214 or 214VC? Thanks

At over 5 years old I imagine it's the 214, not the VC, because I think the VC is only 2 years old. Still, it doesn't matter, it's a great piano regardless!
You're absolutely right about the expensive pianos that sit on showroom floors, but I'd actually include Steinway in that. I've heard of some pretty good deals on new American Steinways becoming available depending on the circumstances of the dealer. Sure, it's rare, but not unheard of. In Europe things are done slightly differently since Steinway in Europe doesn't sell the pianos to the dealer but rather gives the dealer commission, and if a piano doesn't sell it can just be sent back to the nearest Steinway centre (London, Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, etc).
Most pianos sitting in dealers showrooms are not subjected to abuse. It does happen that dealers have accidents in their showroom and a burst pipe could happen over a piano. In that case the piano is written off by the dealer's insurance company and replaced with a new one, and certainly not sold as new or lightly used!

. I've heard of some pretty good deals on new American Steinways becoming available depending on the circumstances of the dealer. Sure, it's rare, but not unheard of. Not quite as rare as you might think. Some American S&S dealers make young used pianos a big part of their business. Loan a number to schools, churches, etc. and if a few buy, great. But if they do not you have a 3 year old piano that the dealer sells at a discount. Some of them are beaten up, but some are not. In that case the piano is written off by the dealer's insurance company and replaced with a new one, and certainly not sold as new or lightly used! I suppose a dealer (or anyone for that matter) can buy out a damaged piano once it has been totaled. It doesn't happen often, but it could happen.
